“Gordon cant talk.” && “Chuck Norris is overrated.”
You can either be of the opinion that time travel is possible, or that it isn’t. Valve seems to believe that it isn’t possible, as each time something happens that seems like time travel, it’s actually not.
Gordon is put into stasis by the G-Man: this is not time travel, it is just allowing him to stay preserved without aging or dyeing.
The slow teleport from Nova Prospect isn’t time travel either: it does not allow information to travel from the future to the present.
Time travel always causes a paradox and personally I think it’s impossible. As Valve seems to keep avoiding it, I think they would not suddenly introduce time travel into the Half-Life universe. With time-travel, you could just go back and prevent the Resonance Cascade, and the entire point of the game would be gone.
Paradox-less time travel is possible with the multiverse theory.
Too bad proving string theories is harder than finding a white hole or a wormhole in space. But what is really proven is that it is physically impossible[/SIZE] to travel between dimensions.
Do we even know if we have millions of universes in parallel dimensions that have been made because random people with a time machine have to change every single little thing in their lives? What if something goes wrong and someone have edited the 4th dimension? It may already have happened for all we know! :fffuuu:
Edit: this brings us to another theory about why we don’t find paradoxes right now: because we may already live in it!
your derp astounds me
As far as I’m concerned multiverse-theory is wrong just because of occam’s razor. Everything I’ve heard about the movie Primer (I have yet to actually watch it) makes it a good example of paradox-free time travel in a single universe.
Multiverse’ are only good for comic authors who want a do-over & awesome episodes of Futurama & Star Trek.
Oxidious’ idea is excellent, in my opinion.
Primer was a great movie.
string theory etc
Depending on what we find, we might just disprove string theory. That would make my day. :freeman:
I know I’m a little late, but… say what? :brow:

I don’t blame Freeman’sMind-Gordon for hating string theory. I think it’s stupid too.
i think you’re stupid :’(
Yeah but it’s pointless for anything but research. If they used it in Half-Life, Gordon wouldn’t even be in the same universe anymore. He’d be saving someone else’s universe, not his own. And that would make the rest of the series completely irrelevant.
Let’s be clear: I wasn’t suggesting time travel be used at all. I, personally, think it would be stupid. I was just suggesting that with the multiverse theory, time travel wouldn’t have to result in catastrophe. But I’m a CS student, so I don’t really know about these things.
lol at Gabe’s email address
With the game Portal, Valve already introduced time travel. By creating 2 portals to travel between, Valve not only introduced a way of travelling through space, but also a way of travelling through time. Ask yourself, how can Chelle step into a portal and appear at another portal much further away instantly? The way I see it, the portal gun creates a pocket universe which allows Chelle to travel through. A pocket universe which has a slower timing than our own. These pocket universes are created and destroyed each time Chelle creates a new portal path.
Now with the Borealis, Aperture was able to create a portal/pocket universe whos timing was much faster than our own, resulting in the Borealis appearing in the future when it travelled through the portal. The future/present portal is now closed and Gordon must figure out how to activate it to travel back in time to the past/present.
Everyone seems to be quoting theories, so there’s mine.
^^ that really pisses me off.
If you post a new thread, you get shot down for not searching (theres even an instance of it on the 1st fucking page of this thread!). If you keep all the ideas to one old thread, you get shot down for bringing up an old thread?
For fucks sake people :fffuuu:
I just realized a thing could wormholes not just could bend time, space but also dimensional “doorways”? hope we never find one!
edit: the post after this is #100 in this thread! :fffuuu:
damit to late.
Ok, one last thought, then I’ll let it die.
The Borealis created the exit portal after it entered the first portal. Depending on the speed of the pocket universe it created it could have been a few seconds before opening up the second portal. This is what killed the crew of the Borealis, unaccounted for energies. The Borealis emerged from the portal at the same exact space but at a different time. Which is probably why Aperture chose a mobile platform instead of a fixed one.
