Well, I’m sure there was more to gordon’s part in the experiment than pushing the cart.
Feels like at least one of the scientists in HL1 would’ve mentioned that if that was the case. Something like “Thanks Gordon, thanks for opening a portal to another world and dropping brain eating crabs upon our asses.” Oh no wait, REEEEEEETCONSSSSS! <.<
What is the Terminator subplot, and why is it bad?
Okay. Why?
If you told us that before the announcement we would have no reason to believe you, obviously. You mean would we have considered that a possibility? Why not? And if not, then we would be proven wrong when it came out, and… what? Really, I don’t see your point here. “Unexpected plots are bad”?
Ridiculous. You’re essentially saying that prequels should entirely never be written because introducing new information in the past that hasn’t been mentioned yet is a “time paradox”. No Dotard, giving names and backstories to previously nameless NPCs does not break continuity, it adds to it.
You seem to think the story’s integrity revolves around your own ability to figure it out, regardless of how many others were able to.
You’re contradicting yourself. You say the current story is a mess and should be remade, then you say retcons are bad and keeping the current story would be beneficial. What? I don’t even know what your opinion is anymore.
I agree. I think that Gordon’s role in the experiment was to study the effects of the beam upon the crystal, and to note of any particular occurences in the Xen-crystal/beam reaction which would help the research of his superiors. Gordon’s own scientific field must’ve bordered upon what the scientists were doing with the Xen crystal. What it was about his scientific field which Black Mesa felt coincided with their Xenian experiments, I’m unsure. Dr. Kleiner seemed to think that Gordon’s background was perfect for testing out the sample, but what could Gordon’s field determine about the crystal which the science team is trying to find out? They’ve already created portals to Xen: what power or ability did they seek to harness with the Nihilinth’s own power crystal?
From what I gathered in the chapter “Black Mesa East,” the remnants of the science team have managed to do more stable experiments with the crystal than they could have before. I suppose it is somehow connected with the Dark Energry experiments of BME, and with the new teleportation mode they were attempting. Is that was BM was after?
plus there was probably prep work leading up to the experiment that the player doesn’t see because it happened over the course of the days leading to this event.
Both Mossman and Breen believed (or once believed, in the case of the former) that they could help humanity achieve greater things with the help of the Combine. And, were the Combine not an oppressive, evil, and exploitative organization, they’d be right.
Personally, I’m very fond of the theory that Breen has been transferred into an Advisor body.
Actually, that’s the only way Breen could be integrated into the story again, since Robert Culp (Breen’s V.A.) passed away
Didn’t the pre-Breen (Consul) transform into a worm? It’s quite obvious, if they decide to go on with that idea, then the next time we see him, he won’t have a beard lol
Didn’t she just say “it should have been me”? I thought she was just complaining about the bureaucracy that didn’t allow her to be there, not saying anything personally against Gordon.
Besides, she had no clue what actually happened in the test chamber because the only living witness (Gordon) was in extradimensional limbo. For all she knew, they did make it to a stage involving something more technically challenging than pushing stuff around, at which point Gordon’s inferior expertise ruined everything.
Problem with the mutated Breen is that Breen’s VA, Robert Culp, has unfortunately passed away.
I thought that was the solution.
Advisors do not have a voice, do they? And if yes, then a new voice actor will do it + some “robotic” voice filter to it
It’s a shame that Breen’s voice actor is deceased. It was a surprise to me when I first heard his voice for Breen (I thought it was going to sound deeper), and despite some awkward lines, he was a really good voice actor. My salutations to him.
Anyway, if the mutated Breen does get a voice, it should definitely sound much different than his usual voice. If necessary, don’t give him a voice at all. Make it so that he can’t speak English anymore, and now speaks Combine language with the aid of an interpreting apparatus. His language could be a mixture of Advisor squeals and deep groans. Although it is hinted that he may use a Combine Advisor body as a host, I would rather that his body look much different than the Advisors. Something more akin to SiN or Resident Evil. But then, who knows if Valve has any original alien boss fights in stor for the next installment.
It’s a good point, targ, about Dr. Mossman. Her assessment is based still upon assumptions about what went on in he test chamber. Pyro’s observation about Mossman believing that cooperating with the Combine in order to attain higher scientific discoveries makes me think that she may become turncoat yet again. Eli said that the Borealis must be destroyed: what if Judith wants the ship’s technology for herself? News of Eli’s death may prompt her to be more hostile to Gordon. If she survived the attack, she might’ve bargained with them in some way to get to the Borealis. I still have yet to see how she’ll behave in the next episode, if she appears at all.
Half-Life has never really been about boss fights. They’re usually like blast pit or the EP2 strider battle, requiring unique mechanics and use of the environment to defeat your foes.
Kleiner may be reluctant to destroy the Borealis as well. Remember how Eli and him argued about whether or not to destroy it? If Ep3 is open world like some rumors suggest, having those three as factions vying for control over the Borealis could be an interesting scenario…
I think that was Alyx’s perception of it (remember, you don’t hear this directly from Mossman; Alyx tells you secondhand). Perhaps Mossman was just envious that she wasn’t the one picked by Kleiner. Perhaps she had romantic feelings for Eli and wanted to be close to him (probably not reciprocal due to his being married with a child and Alyx represents the child she never had which makes Mossman somewhat angry at Alyx, possibly).
Also, Judith comes off as haughty, anal and hyper-academic, where Gordon was a slacker, constantly late and not even making good use of his theoretical Physics degree.
You kidding? Smashing wooden crates, pushing/pressing buttons and turning valves say otherwise :retard:
I don’t know if you can really call Freeman a slacker. He obviously had something that Kleiner liked more than Mossman.
I also don’t think Freeman was chronically late. He could’ve blamed his lateness on the computer issues they were having that morning. We don’t really see him do any actual work before everything turns to shit but it’s obvious that this isn’t his first day on the job so he obviously had to contribute…something.
We just don’t know but I don’t think Kleiner was a slouch in his day at the BMRF. His opinion and pick was of obvious importance to Mossman.
He’s a trained professional.
