HL: overrated or not, aka. HL3 the savior or a failure?

Are you sure? I’m looking at Steam statistics, I’ve spent more time with Far Cry 3 and Borderlands 2 since their release more than HL2+EP1+EP2 together till now.

I’m not saying they aren’t replayable, but they aren’t something you would play continuously.

Listen to Gabe, when talking about Valve’s approach and future of gaming, he talks about MMO and multiplayer games constantly. Also lately, he also talked about which are the most played, but don’t remember what he said.

Thats you, and we all know your opinions on things tend to be “unique” and “Different” and rarely representational or in line with most of us on these forums

We get it Dotard, you’re a special little snowflake.

That’s pretty self-explanatory, I’m me (and most people are unique individuals thus different) and you are apparently more than one person since you are generalizing.

So you too? :fffuuu:

Does it not occur to everyone that there’s something involved here called “taking their time”? I don’t recall Black Mesa having been released at it’s original 2006 date, and ep.3 and HL3 will be released at the same time as any:when it’s done. The fact that they haven’t said or released much about it is the same way with the Xen development here, and both are going to turn out great when they’re finished. It’s not overrated,I’m not just sucking up, I know it has problems, but mostly it just has a lot of crouch jumping.

fixed

More development time doesn’t necessarily mean a better product.
Look at Max Payne 3, by the time it came out, half the original fans were either dead or crippled. Half-Life is 5 years late at this point.
Also we know Xen is in development by BM team, while we don’t even know if Valve works on HL3.
@Bur, I might be wrong, but at first, BM was to be released in 2006 as it was supposed to be nothing but HL:Source HD, only later it turned into a more of a remake.

o.O Valve isn’t working on Xen. The BM devs are. We do know that. And BM was always going to be a remake. The only release date they ever set was 2009 and the final one.

He meant “Also we know Xen is in development, while we don’t even know if Valve works on [episode 3/half-life 3].”

I seriously need a spokesman. Thanks :expressionless:

I’ve seen alot of people with 100s of hours on them, no offense I just don’t get why, I personally never found replay value except trying to get more achievements, especially when it’s like Opposing Force and Blue Shift, which are so short and don’t have achievements but many people have spent alot of hours on them.

Saying that achievements impact replay value is like saying that you participated in the elementary school spelling bee because you wanted the cheap plastic medal.

I like getting them, gives me a sense of acomplishment, also, when it’s a huge game like skyrim where there is so much to do I don’t know where to start I just focus on getting achievements.

Same reason why people re watch movies. It was a very specific experience that they really enjoyed, and they don’t mind doing it again. I replay campaigns like halo and half life like I watch the lotr trilogy anualy.

Well yeah I get movies, I enjoy re-watching my favorites every once in a while.

With video games I personally just enjoy finishing one and moving on to the next, maybe it’s because video games get me so angry and when I beat one I get so relieved that I just fear of going back to do it again.

If you don’t like video games, then wouldn’t the solution be to not play them at all, rather than only playing them once?

that would make a diversified experience for you but not a specialist on any game.

I never said I didn’t like them, I said they made me lose my temper, which I actually enjoy, sometimes I’m mad inside and i release that anger while playing games. Playing video games is what I do the most with my life.

… just don’t ever get a gun …

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
