HDMI to Cinch/AV

Has anyone an idea if those adapter cables from HDMI to Cinch work?
I would really like to buy one but I’m not sure if it works.

I assume by cinch you mean component?

yes, component = 3xCinch =
2xAudio
1xVideo

I can’t see why they wouldn’t work.

Yeah they should work fine.

alright, thanks!

Now I have a question for you. Where does one acquire such a device?

eBay or an onlineshop

um… component is analog, while HDMI is digital. I only see this cable working is specialized applications.

yeah, you can’t expect to run one of these cables and get anything in HD

the TV I want to use it with can’t handle HD otherwise it would have a HDMI connector.
So it doesn’t work if I plug the HDMI on my gfx card and the component stuff on my TV?

VGA can do 1920x1080 in progresive at 60hz I would say that’s full HD

There is no way to go from HDMI to composite (Cinch) video using a passive connection.

What this cable was designed for was for special devices that could pipe analogue video over its HDMI connection. Similar to the way the new macs let you connect a composite/s-video connector to its mini display port.

Bottom line, This cable will not work for you unless your HDMI device explicitly supports such functionality (very rare).

They make HDMI to Composite Scaler Scan converter boxes but they are like $150~$250. If you have a VGA (d-sub) connection you can convert that to composite much cheaper. With this or this.

I dunno how it would work but what about the other way? From digital to analog over the RCA cable…?

Again the only way to go from a digital port to an analog one (or visa versa) is if the host device is just piping(or accepts) an alternate video stream over said port. The only devices that support this that I can think of are a few high end Televisions, some specialized broadcast boxes and some projectors.

For these devices is better to not think of them as “using” HDMI, but rather they just happen to be able to send video over that port using a special adapter. These connection types were designed to reduce the number of ports on a device to save space (think of how Motorola cellphones use USB for the headphone connection) or to give the user more input options.
