I really think cameras should be added.
I agree with cameras. It only makes sense that they would want to monitor and even record the performance of the H.E.V. for future reference.
It wouldn’t be that much trouble, there’s a render mode specifically for holograms.
its ingame render or maya? i also think you can use hl2 rig and animations you can just put the model over it, and if there is a way to put it in maya it can be animated , in case we dont use existing animation. as for the camaras , there already is a prop actor rigt?.
- Click on any entity in Source SDK
- Set “Render FX” to Hologram
- ???
- Profit!
We wont’ know if there are camera props already until BM is released.
Steal them from CS for the time being?
That’s what I was thinking.
thats hammer right? downloading now
:fffuuu: First time mapper inbound!
Ask for help if you need it.
i can map in unreal udk. any1 has a download link? arrrg
That looks like a camera to me.
Perhaps this team could eventually move on to remaking Decay? The Hazard Course features there, and we’re doing Gina’s model already. We’d have a decent enough starting point and we could use it to recruit a full team; and since we’re all from here we could liaise with the BM developers… perhaps they could assist us (by allowing [limited] access to work they’ve done, not by doing more work).
Mmm, pipe dream. Let’s get the Haz Course done first and dream about the ‘what next’ later. I’ve just finished reinstalling HL Source and will be playing that if I can get source to work again - been having issues with it recently…
Anyways, can we get some sort of organised list of who is trying to help with what, since if we keep getting volunteers, concepts, questions, answers, and everything else in one thread, we’re gonna lose the plot real fast. Or at least some of us are.
Anyway, it’s been all talk and no work from me so far, so I’ll get busy.
edit
By playing it, I mean going over the HC with a fine-tooth comb for development purposes
Source engine is all brushed-based, you build everything out of massive blocks. Like Lego!!! :3
To install: Open Steam, go to the tools tab and install Source SDK.
There is a list building of volunteers, however to keep this as close to the community as possible at the moment we are in a ‘concept’ stage- anybody can contribute and I / we want as many people as possible to contribute to this stage - and this can be done right here in this thread, no need to ask - just do it!
When the community is happy we will move towards full development where the people who have offered there services in this area can be given specific tasks to do and we we gradually refine and compile their work in to a single product.
Having said all that there are a lot of people who have gotten excited and want to jump the gun, which is fine - but it’ll never come together that way. Let’s slow this down and do it properly as a community. We need enough information for mappers and artists to go forwards and be able to create consistant maps with a clear, and community devised plan, style, themes, layout and progression.
Things that will help in this regard are:
- Plan views of the Hazard course layouts that are labelled with an idea behind why and how player progression will work
- Sketches and pictures showing ideas for specific areas and styles/themes
- Concept maps are fine to show styles, building architecture, obstacle ideas
- Discussion on wheather all the obstacles are needed? in the same order? more tuition required on features Source may introduce
- Screenshots of the current hazard course that have been annotated and descriptions to show your ideas for change or to point out features which are important and should remain
- And more, any way you can think of portraying your ideas are welcome
If we where to go through this properly and at a decent pace, sharing ideas and collaborating then we stand half a chance of making a fucking good map, otherwise we will have lots of maps, assets and models which don’t fit together.
Who is up for an SVN repository?
I have been pondering over some sort of repository the last few days, but couldn’t deciede which way was best going forwards. Certainly at the moment somewhere to store concepts and ideas as a pose to assets would be useful. One thought, although a brief one, on this was a wiki?
Drop box?
Forum?
I can host the SVN and some project management system if you like.
