Hazard Course

If it’s not a major pain in the arse to set up then we can give it a go.

I have to admit I’d never heard of Dropbox (maybe it’s that rock I live under though?)!

@m4rek: Forum is good for getting the ideas out, but it does mean later on, when we have people creating content they have to flick back through page after page to find what they want. We need somewhere to take content of the forums and place them in an organised way,

The only pain should be giving new people access to the SVN, currently I need to manually do it. (Until I stop being lazy and build a simple web interface to automate it)

But we still need to get the ideas out, so a forum combined with whatever you’re discussing may be optimal; or a forum with threads that function in the same way but are not open to general public (to avoid the need for stringent moderation to prevent spam)

Or something. Probably the first idea.

If you like, I can do up a screenshot hazard course thumbnail gallery. I am surprised I didn’t already do it to put it here

That’s why I considered a Wiki at first (I can have one running in about 5 mins :stuck_out_tongue: ), anybody can get at it and allows for easy textual input for ideas and stuff - the only problem is it’s crap for assets. Of course we don’t need assets yet anyway…

@m4rek, Maybe it’s because it’s one in the morning, but I didn’t quite follow what you mean’t there…

I’ll install redmine. Wiki, Bug tracker and Forums All-in-one.

^this, bscly

I’d love to see Valve’s faces when they find a massive random surge in people playing Half-Life 1 lol

mmmk.
SVN and Redmine are set up. For those people helping develop it, PM me and I’ll set up an account and give you a temp password.

Can I join as a mapper?

or am I too late?

@Mabilis - I’ve replied to your PM!

I was thinking that instead of being put through the hazard course to be trained you could wake up somewhere, possibly in a dormitory, then you fall through old broken/crumbly floor into (near) the start of the hazard course. Where Black Mesa has gone through the resonance cascade but a long time ago so there has been no maintenance. We then could have the course to be much more challenging as there are no safety regulations since no one is meant to be being tested at that time - so there hasn’t been maintenance. Meaning there could be (worse) burst steam pipes, dark lighting, broken bridges etc. … even zombies in dark areas. Although the doors and holograph seem automatic there might not be electricity to power them because again, no maintenance (and I guess no power altogether) , anyhow we could possibly turn this into a puzzle by making the player go through a maintenance door to turn on power… or something… There are many ideas that could come from this but I cant think of any more.
I re-read what I wrote and It seems a little far fetched but I want your opinions.

Now that my essay is finished I can sleep (I bet you can find slurred speech in there)
Goodnight.

No, the hazard course was designed for players to become aquainted with the game mechanics in a non threatening environment. Your idea strays too much from the original, it happened before the incident.

I think that’s a fun idea but really it’s not what this project is about, sounds like something you could make as a map for BM when it’s released, using all their assets.

And I’m sure they’ll be a lot of people willing to help at that point, as everyone will be very excited and seeing the mod completed should help to inspire a lot of people to pick it up with everything the developers have made!

OK fairy nuff.

How will we get the long jump module?
I guess we will have to wait until Black Mesa is released.

Unless they become happy enough to supply it to the creators, which I doubt, but it’s possible. Gordon’s hands are needed as well.

EDIT

I was just talking to Chris, and I mentioned music, what do you guys think about having music in Hazard Course? HL1 styled, that is.
Or do you guys think it would be better without?

I think HL1-style music (since its not exactly forbidden) would be acceptable in the hazard course… seeing as its a separate mod Based on a training level from the original using BM textures.

I would prefer to keep our rendition of the Hazard Course in-keeping with the standards and style of Black Mesa. That way the two could be combined if the devs find our work worthy. Slim as the chance is, it vanishes completely if we go off on one and the Hazard Course becomes perceptibly separate from Black Mesa.

Is the purpose of the hazard course still going to be learning how to use your keys and movements in a game, or should it shift more about learning how to use your hev suit and its movements in life?

Oh, and yeah get it only here:

catz, your images are broken

they show up as the “broken JPEG file” image for me
EDIT
their fix’d now

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
