Hazard Course Remake

Yeah, that’s actually what got the idea going.

Cool, can’t wait what comes out of all this

Just an idea for the soda demo
After taking damage from something, Gordon walks into a cafeteria lounge, and sees Barney sitting at a table or leaning on a wall watching tv

A few lines he could say upon entering:
“Woah, man, let me guess… you get into an argument with one of the female scientists again? here, it’s on the house”
“Havin’ a bad day champ? nothin’ a cold frosty Poke can’t fix”
“Just to be clear, this counts as the drink, okay?”

Ha, I love those! Reminds me of the “You better make like a x and y,” from Anomalous Materials. I support this idea.

Geez, seems like everyone’s got these connections but me

Well, we’ve been using Dropbox so far. I suppose we could substitue an actual SVN with a Dropbox account unique to the project and all of us working on the project can share the account and it’s information, keep separate folders for our work, all that yada yada, or something.

I am only talking about making one hazzard life threatening… nothing else

The game is littered with comedy and references to people having accidents and things going wrong… Vacancies in materials handling If you cannot see that black comedy is in the spirit of the game that is half life and was faithfully recreated in Black Mesa. perhaps you need to stop taking this so seriously.

I don’t care anyway really because I don’t need this tutorial I already know how to play the ganme

HaZard! It’s written all over the place, stop adding the extra ‘z’ to it :expressionless:

And come on, don’t be bitter just because your idea wasn’t that good.

Hah, I was actually just thinking that, if we get a scientist in there, he/she could say something like, ‘eww, you’re all sweaty!’, or something. You do a lot of running, after all!

Very good idea!Though I don’t know who voiced the guards, it could be Adam or Chris since Mike voiced the scientists.

Alright then  .

Just an idea for the beginning, what if we let the player start from the dormitories? So he’ll have to walk to the tram and meet some scientists, and then get to Sector A.
Its a kind of extreme idea due the more amounts of more work we are going to have to do, but it could make it more interesting like what the Black Mesa team did to the anamalous materials chapter.

You’re getting hostile again. :fffuuu:

It was Kevin Sisk, I believe. Holy fuck, that dude has a natural Barney voice, it’s amazing.

If it’s good for everyone else it seems like it’ll simplify things. I guess we can set one up and whoever’s working will be PM’d the details.

Seems a tad overboard. We’ll have to design the tram sequence, and hope like hell the player doesn’t get bored waiting.

This project is not a damn simple HL1 mod.
Also I’ve not seen comedy anywhere in Black Mesa.Black Mesa only made me laugh abit in the Anamalous Materials chapter before it got destroyed. For the rest its very sad i.e the elevator crash and the Questionable Ethics machine bloodbath where the woman cries. The only humor that is left is the guards joking around while idling in a team.
Also if we don’t take this serious we will end up with a dead mod.

I don’t know about you, but I laugh like hell whenever someone blows up.

After being poked with a chair for the last 15 seconds, or so…

I laugh also since I like gibbing NPC’s  .
But what I mean is that it brings emotion to the game, and that its not just about shooting and survival :3

*trashcan?

Chair, trashcan, table - doesn’t really matter, if you’d really try you could probably use a smaller object and still blow 'em up.

Now, let’s get back to topic. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I see what you mean.

Bloody good times, those are.

Ronster, is falling 20 feet to the loving embrace of concrete, falling 50 feet into some water (into a what, 7*7 gap?). being sprayed in the face with steam, pipes exploding (also in your face, might I add?) and being exposed to radiation really not enough danger for you? That sounds like a fucking nightmare to be a required part of your job training.

Yes, but there are evidently lots of other people that don’t know how to play the game, which is the purpose of the training level. The rest of us that do know how to play the game just want a faithful recreation of the HC for nostalgic purposes, and to participate in a community project. You clearly don’t understand the purpose of what this project is about. Teach the players the basic mechanics of the game in a (relatively) safe environment, then test that knowledge in the actual game where hazards are present.

I did some single player mapping and I used to love making death traps… They are just alot of fun… They are just really funnny… The process of thinking about how you will lead players to death but also give them a way out.

If it’s not for your hazzard course that is fine but I love that about the game and only expressing what I enjoy… For me the death traps are humourous and some irritating but thats part of the fun

Not about to spend hours an hours mapping again any time soon… But I did enjoy it at the time and know how time consuming mapping is

If you like death traps, I suggest you to play on deathrun gamemodes for Gmod.Just sayin’.

never heard of it… sounds good I will check it thanks

Another scripted cutscene for the cafeteria, then I’ll leave it at that
Scientist: A group of scientists (2 or 3) and security guards (1 or 2) sitting at a table playing a game of poker

One of the scientists grabs a card
Scientist 1: Well?
Guard 1: Well what?
Scientist 1: It’s your move, Richard.
Guard 1: I know, I know… [Under Breath] Ah crap…
Guard 1: Uh, hey, didn’t they just call your name over the PA?
Scientist 2: Quit stalling, you’re simply delaying the inevitable.

The player can walk around the table and see each player’s cards
When the player stands behind Guard 1 and aims the crosshair close to his cards, he sees that he has the losing hand, this initiates the next script

Guard 1: ah, AH, AAAAAHHH CHOO!
everyone drops their cards, they fly all around the table
Scientist 3: My… god! cards fluttering
Scientist 2: Cover your mouth, you’re spreading germs everywhere! cards fluttering
Guard 2: Hoooly hell! cards fluttering
The cards fall to the table and finally stop moving
Guard 1: …Heh, sorry about that fellas, I guess we’re gonna have to start over

If the player presses E on one of the scientists
Scientist 1: Stay back Freeman, who knows what biohazards you could’ve picked up in the Hazard Course with that suit of yours…
Guard: The only biohazard here is your fasion sense
laughter
laughter

Scientist 1 looks at the other players with a puzzled face
Scientist 1: What’s wrong with my polkadot tie?

Hahaha, that’s pretty funny, but you know, we’d need to make a custom skin for that scientist if he is to have a polka dot tie :stuck_out_tongue: Also, if you get to use ‘e’ on the scientists, perhaps one of them could say the ‘eww, you’re all sweaty’ line I mentioned earlier. Dunno. But this is great!
