is possible in the near future that a re creation of the hazard course will be made? it would be pretty amazing to have that
EEhhmmmm…The developers are not going to make that level. They think tutorials are a past´s thing. There are messages in game for a reason.
But the community started the task some time ago.
The last person who was working on the map joined Tripmine Studios, so oficially no one is making the map for Black Mesa.
But it will be make some day, I guess…
I think not having a tutorial is a bad idea considering how much crouch-jumping you have to do in-game, which isn’t exactly standard in most fpses. A reminder to the people that haven’t played half-life in a long time that crouch-jumping is in-game would be helpful.
That is a good point actually…
As far as the Hazzard course goes we don’t need it as a tutorial though but It would be nice to see it re-imagined and to actually be a speed run competition that saves your time and uploads your best time in an online leaderboard.
To have a stand alone level based on the premise of speedruns would be a good thing IMO and give people a place to compete with their speedruns of a level made specifically for that purpose.
Just an Idea… No console or hey binding in this competition it would be all about dexterity and reaction time
No Holograms either Just the Hazzard course and a timer
There was a community remake for the Hazard Course on the old forums, but that died twice due to lack of interest and communication. Perhaps now that BM is out there might be a chance that someone remakes it. It would mostly use BM’s assets, and only really require a couple of custom props.
has the Map file disappeared?
Should get somone to head this up as a community project with input from the speed runners… On what they would like to see in a speed run map… Perhaps with a little influence from portal test chambers thrown in and based on the concepts in Hazzard course but no portals or teleports…
I can see the splash screen now all it says is start Race options and quit
No saves / loads allowed
I won’t be winning this contest thats for sure but I would have a go
Stuff like pushing a button in one room and having to get to the door before it closes in another.
It would not hurt to have a complete guide to the course and what you have to do to get through it.
Long jump module should feature towards the end
Fire traps conveyors and of course a toxic radiation waterfall and eh pooh water
The trick would be a whole course with no loading in other areas so it plays from start to finish without having to load in any new areas
I don’t like the competition idea, it feels out of place, but that’s just me. I think the map was being worked on by multiple people so it’s probably split up, and likely deleted by now. Looks like someone or some people are just gonna have to start anew.
I know there were a couple of people that expressed interest in restarting the project, but it’s probably better to just restart the whole thing from scratch.
Looking forward to this, want to see the complete Half Life game in Source
The are not many assets left over from the original hazard course recreation and I would agree with what’s already been stated; it would be as easy to start from scratch.
Now that the BM assets (textures, props, etc) are available work could progress much more quickly on a hazard course and should only require a small team. Also you can now work directly from the look and feel of BM to ensure consistency, which is something we could never have achieved the first time around.
Also, if memory serves me right (I may need to look this up in my past PMs) the voice work was recorded by Victoria for a BM hazard course from when it was still on the table. Whether this is still buried with the BM install (I would think unlikely), or whether it could be made available by the BM devs for this project is something anyone taking this project on would have to look in to.
I miss this
Tripmine Studios will be implementing a Hazard Course in Guard Duty. I never really saw the need for it today, the help messages pretty much do away with it.
Good Old Nostalgy!
Good point, but…
I think that should be enough for most to get the hang of crouch jumping.
But I agree, it’d be totally cool if someone from the community made a Hazard Course map pack.
A good ol’ play of Half-Life will get you your fill of Black Mesa
It’s just fun to experience and compare with 14 years ago.
As I said before the forum wipe, I’d be willing to try and pitch in somehow if anyone wants to restart.
Am I the only one that crouch-jumps everywhere in every game to this day because of HL1?
If there is a restart on this, I would be willing to turn over the voice files. IF you want them. I make NO assumptions, and my feelings would not be hurt if you go a different direction.
I just have to get ahold of Kevin cuz HE is the one that actually has them.
Don’t see why not. It’ll blend with Black Mesa better if they’re used.
I’m like this, too. The only time I don’t is when I actually can’t due to crappy new age game mechanics.
I think it would be great. It’s not really needed as tutorial but I used to play it every time before going for another HL1 run-through, just to get in the mood. I always play the tutorial levels in my games every time, even if I play them repeatedly. They usually have some nice exposition. I did play the HL Source version while downloading BMS .
This. I habitually hit CTRL every time I jump, in every game that allows it, always.
