just wondering, how is the hologram going to work… not the thing its self but the npc model… (can’t just splice a female scientists head on to Gordon’s model mainly because Gordon doesn’t have a model)
The HEV suit has a model.
But we have someone working on the model already, so I’ll bet we’re good on that front.
not to shoot back… Deactivate with a switch to allow the guard to open the door… In other versions of hazzard course the turrets are over the door that the security guard opens.
If there is no option for the guard to be in danger then there is no achievement in getting him to follow and escourt to open the door.
This will teach the player to not escourt critical npc’s into danger
besides which there are 2 security guards here enough so that you can make a mistake but should probably have consequences for leading a security guard to his death on a training mission.
make both guards critical probably
or an achievement “hazzard of course?”
or both
just remembered something that was missing in the hl1 hazard course. it never told you taht scientists and soda could heal you.
apparently the scientists in black mesa can heal you but I have not seen it yet
I got one to heal me… I was almost dead though.
That would be just really awkward to teach. The soda, anyway. We could probably toss a vending machine somewhere, but it wouldn’t be a teaching point. Scientists only heal you if you have really low health. Something like 40, I’m not entirely sure. But there’s not reason to harm the player that much just to teach them how to get a teeny health bonus.
So your idea is to put staff and a new recruit in danger of their lives to teach a trainee how to operate something he will never ever operate under standard working procedure? Also, no achievements.
Have you ever seen this mod before?
I think some of the ideas in this would be great… Death is a consequence if you don’t know what your doing on the hazzard course
The point of the Hazard Course is to teach new staff to get used to their suit, learn it’s basic abilities and show them how to operate health/charge stations (along with some 4th wall poking to teach the player the controls), not put them in mortal danger.
If a single idea is taken from that mod I’m gonna have to kill somebody.
No, just no. Seriously, nearly everything you’ve posted in this thread is going against what this project is about. It won’t be about speedruns, there won’t be a resonance cascade in the middle of the course, there wont be lava and spikes coming out of the wall. It will be a modern re imagining of the original, exactly the same as what BM was to HL.
The turrets are just there to prevent/deter people from shooting the guards because the original didn’t confiscate your weapons.
I’m leaving them in as a legacy thing, and I’m going to set them up to activate if a guard dies, but it’ll most likely be just a throwback detail.
Vending machines are also present as in the original t0a0d, though I don’t know how we could use them as an educational thing. Maybe have the security guard comment on how Gordon looks thirsty? “Man, you must be exhausted from all that running around. Help yourself to one of those vending machines over there, get a drink or something if ya want.”
One thing we could do, depending on how Catz’ lines were written, is not have the fourth wall be cracked at all through the holo’s dialog. For instance, instead of it describing how to press a button in the lift section, it could just say “Please activate the lift” and “E - Press Button” could appear onscreen. Also, that way it could also work as a tutorial for first time players, assuming there are any.
I like that idea of not breaking the fourth wall. The line about being thirsty sounds great too. Hell, I would even volunteer if a fem scientist said that line - I ain’t no pro, but I have a mic, and I’d love to voice that line, hahaha!
(Where there even any scientists in that area of the hazard course, with the turrets and such? I’m gonna have to check a video…)
Yes.Sorry for not being clear, I was typing on my phone :fffuuu:
I agree with those, they’re pretty nice. And yes, Jokerine, there was a scientist or two standing in a room, watching.
@BoxNoob (henceforth referred to by me only as “Box”), ah I see. It’s okay, I understood you fine, just wanted to see if you’d lost your files as well. Thank gosh I did what I did, then. Accidentally saving maps FTW.
Oh, yeah, I know about those; I meant later on. I found a video herethat shows there was at least one in the area with the drink machines; perhaps, if this area was expanded to become a kind of mini cafeteria/break room, we could have a scientist commenting on thirst and getting a drink.
Or maybe not. I dunno, just sayin’
No, no and NO
I was thinking about that yesterday.
Then I realised it does not really make sense to make a cafeteria with weapons hanging on the wall, so I’m more thinking it could be a guardhouse.
~Off topic
Shouldnt we make a SVN since the communication would go faster?

well I thought it was amusing at least… To actualy have a life threatening hazzard in the hazzard course otherwise it is not much of a hazzard even if a training exercise. Consequently death has no baring on the game what so ever and you would have to try extremly hard to die in the original hazzard course probably like your version.
to prepare the player and show them that death is not critical to the game is a fair suggestion no less than having to have a hologram tell you to jump.
But if you really want to make it a proper training exercise then death should be a valid option on a hazzard course where you are trying to prepare the player to die over an over again in situations later on within the game that is black mesa.
So that is my point not that you should radically change the course but atleast make part of it a life threatening instant kill somewhere to be a fair comparison to the game which the original pretty much failed to demonstrate any instant kill hazzards or traps of which there are alot of in black mesa and half life
It’s a training mission. In universe it’s to train their employees. There’s no way in all Hell they would do something that could potentially kill their new workers.
Out of universe it’s trying to teach the player to play the game, there’s no need for much danger.
Yeah, that’s the one I meant.
We’ll see what JeffMOD comes up with. I like the idea of a sort of break room. Could also be a little window where you could/should turn in your gun before proceeding? Just an idea.
It would definitely help with file transfer. I personally don’t know much about repositories, using them, or setting them up, so that’s all you guys :retard:
I don’t think the standard emergency procedure would be survival and killing military and aliens so idea declined. But the point of the Hazard Course is what Crypt said:
“The point of the Hazard Course is to teach new staff to get used to their suit, learn it’s basic abilities and show them how to operate health/charge stations (along with some 4th wall poking to teach the player the controls), not put them in mortal danger.”
Your ideas would be great for a HL1 mod or your own Black Mesa addon though.
I’ll ask a friend of mine.He runs a 24/7 hosting service, and I sometimes get free servers to let my community play on.Or he will let me pay 2,50 a month lol
EDIT:I’ve reached the limit of free servers.
Can we also use Dropbox or Skydrive or something?
I can imagine something like the small room with the bulletproof window you see at the beginning in BM, to the right of the main desk. Wasn’t there a similar thing in Blue Shift near the fire range? Man, my memory fails…
