if you do a closed beta can I join it?
Sounds like a good time for tester applications.
Here’s mine.
I’m quite skilled in the use of source dev console(e.g. getpos, noclip and so on…)
and in the use of start options (-condebug It’s very useful).
We’re not at that stage yet. When we get there, we’ll let people know.
Yeah, follow the thread and ModDB page, and you’ll probably know a good 60% of what we’re thinking, what’s going on, etc.
You overwriting bastard! Kidding. In the future we’ll have to plan our updates a bit more, and between more (of not all) of the team, instead of 2 people.
Maybe we should just have a designated one or two people write articles so we don’t ever have to deal with anything stupid like that in the future.
Seconded. This will definitely be a bit of an annoyance if it persists. We should figure out soon which two of us have the highest skill in way of writing updates.
I did register yesterday, my username is the same as here: LarsBR
Alright, both news posts are up and authorized for public viewing.
Here’s the three images that went up on the ModDB page yesterday:
Here’s my two cents on these:
-
The first one’s lighting is too bland. The orange pops against the grey, but that’s pretty much it. It’s too soul-less. The green/blue and red look of the original is much better.
-
The green light I put looks retarded now that it’s textured. Also needs to be lighter.
-
Make darker.
On the subject of making things more dark, the flashlight room is bright because the lights are still on. I wanted to make sure it looked nice when lit, even if the player will only see it that way for a second or two.
I had to use two arrays of light_spots because toggleable lights don’t bounce.
Looks nice indeed!
When you enter the room, a trigger turns about half the lights off.
See, I think of everything.
Clever, clever.
Alright, so I’m gonna go ahead and bring up a new topic: The hologram emitter. In Half-Life it was a fat cone flattened at the top. The current model we’re using is a modified version of the one in OAR, and it looks… out of place? Too fancy? I don’t know, but to me something about it feels off, And the more I look at it, the more I can’t help but think it needs to be replaced. Also, there was some discussion in the last thread that brought up the fact that occasionally Gina moves across the room, and the emitters here would have to be either capable of projecting an image that moves across large spaces, or that would simply move along the walls. It might just be me, but if the stationary and dynamic emitters look vastly different it might be a bit distracting.
Now, if we had a concept artist, my voice would be to look at the current design, look at this concept art from one of the failed attempts at the project and some mechanical/electronic transport systems (?) and get crackin’ on some designs.

Concept art of science.
The current design looks more realistic in terms of having the ability to project a 3D image, however that old concept art is much sleeker and offers the button pressing-stuff abilities. However, there is nary a concept artist to be found, hence our clear “see what sticks” approach that we’ve been demonstrating so professionally, so the crackin’ demands won’t get us anywhere.
The dynamic one should be ceiling-mounted or at least wall-mounted, and it should run on along a rail… since Gina kinda has to use her feet, you know.
The current one should be a tad more banged-up, but otherwise I think the basic shape is fine.
Yeah, I was thinking a chain-rail type thing with some sort of gear system to move it along the walls.
I think I’ll post a few Job ads on MDB, 3 most important ones at this moment. I know concept art is a must, we’ve been talking about that (and I’ve been bitching) for months now. On top of that, I know some people get motivated to work when they have some ideas laid out in front of them. What would you say are the next two (or maybe just one) most “urgent” positions?
id say choreographers and concept artists.we got already enough voice actors.
Voice actors… Am I among them? (I guess not, but I have offered my services. I can send you an example. If you don’t mind what everyone says is in irish accent.)
P.S.: Just asking.
Can you make in the flashlight room , very dark (I mean no lights) when the player falls to the ground, add a light in the stairs and when the player climbs up again, there will be no light anymore.
In the original, Gina said that the HEV will be suspended in mid-air. Is this also in the mid-air?
Now that realism is a factor I don’t think the suit can stand up by itself without any sort of support, it was probably floating back in the day simply to distinguish it as a collectable item, much like the guns in the old Quake series used to float and spin around on the spot.
We currently got 3, but one of them might get kicked out due bad acting. However you may send me PM or send it to.Crypt or Dky.
