Hazard Course Remake (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Magnusson at the time was just another scientist. Kleiner was much more in an authority position at the time than Magnusson so if anyone would be watching over Gordon during the HC training, it would probably be him. But the administrator is the ultimate boss and I’m not going to reveal who that is for anyone that has not yet played HL2.

Dr. Wallace Breen was the administrator at Black Mesa

part of me wonders if he didn’t have outside help (The G-Man, perhaps) in getting out

but having a younger Arne, Breen, Eli and Kleiner in some of the viewing booths might make it less dull

Wallace could be watching Gordon’s progress, to determine if he’s fit enough for ‘employment’

Eli and Kleiner could be betting on how he does, that sort of thing (“He’s good at crawling in vents, I suspect he’ll whiz through it in no time”)

And meanwhile Magnusson is one of the test proctors. And he does so while eating a microwave casserole.

Magnusson and Breen are not planned, nor do we have the proper resources to do a good job at making them look younger. Don’t worry, you’ll still have pricks berating you for doing your job.

I doubt they would be present anyway. There’s nothing to suggest Magnusson would have payed attention to the Hazard Course (he doesn’t seem to fond of… people), and I imagine the Administrator has far more pressing things to attent to.

You fucking tool.

off topic: the administrator aka Dr. Breen caused the cascade event in the first place, so I don’t think he cares about people any way.

You people have no thought for spoilers.

Though I doubt anyone here hasn’t played HL2, it’s still polite to pretend they haven’t.

Breen never crossed my mind because i never thought gordon would report directly to him… either kleiner or magnusson are his immediate boss…Or departmental boss… I don’t think eli acts like a boss so i ruled him out but perhaps i am wrong?

Administrator (business), a person for the performance or management of administrative business operations

I always assumed Eli Vance and Isaac Kleiner were probably among the ‘higher ups’ of Sector C. Considering Eli seems to be both older than Kleiner, and is certainly displays more leadership skills and authority in the later installments of Half-Life, I could imagine that Eli might have been in charge of the Anomalous Materials branch of Sector C. In fact, Eli’s probably the only HL2 character I could see as having been Freeman’s “boss”. Kleiner just had enough clout to recommend Gordon.

This is all speculation. In fact, it doesn’t really matter who was in charge of Sector C when it comes to this mod. Nobody from Sector C or anywhere else should be in the Hazard Course. Why bother assigning research associates to sit in a chair and watch somebody complete the Hazard Course when a secretary could forward them the results of the test at a later time? If we’re really going to try to have it be accurate, then the people supervising Gordon during the Hazard Course should be the office workers or security guards.

Scientists observing Gordon I presume

Who knows, Maybe Kleiner just really wanted to congratulate Freeman after training, and pestered Eli to come as well.

I think you are right to have these characters in Hazzard course… After all, they knew what they were doing in Black Mesa was risky so they would want to know they had the right man for the job… And it’s a chance to get to know them a bit better…

There is no issue either of who is the boss it really does not matter. But interesting speculation…

I wonder if they had the time to congratulate him (maybe in their spare time), I even wonder if Kleiner and Eli already knew him sooo much (friends) to come and see…

Kleiner was Freeman’s professor back at MIT, if my memory serves correctly, and he’s the one that recommended him to Black Mesa, so of course he would know him well.

As for whether they had the time… I dunno, maybe they weren’t on the clock or somethin’. I don’t see a reason to look so deep into these things.

So I was listening to the prototype song of “We’ve got hostiles” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjWZ-qcELLI and I thought what if this was to be used in the shooting range, I’d imagine if you could edit the shooting range in a way to be similar to the topside scene in We’ve got hostiles (not being as big of course) but in a way so that the targets appear in locations similar to the scene, like: the player goes in a small shaft, goes out and 2 targets apear in a small room, in front theres the door that leads to a room, which would be the target room like in half life, and then the rest of the targets start to appear, one of them being in high ground next to an explosive, and maybe behind bullet proof glass, similar to the scene again. My reasoning behind this is that apart from target practise, (teaching you how to use explosives, grenade launchers, etc) and it prepares the player for the topside scene which is supposed to be played in a very action-y type of way, so it kills 2 birds with one rock, and the music itself would remind the player that he is ready for this. However if you choose to keep the shooting range in a simple way, so that the player gets used to the weapons, it could be that you added this as a side area, like an advanced shooting course or something similar.

Also for the suggestion of flares, you could just put them somewhere near the end of the course or in a side room next to the flashlight training course, which could possibly be a room which holds flashlights and a box of flares for the security guards training. There, next to the box of flares could be a warning that the flares are flamable, or the security guard at that part could warn you to be careful with them. Then the player could pick the flares for fun and the warning could come in mind to the player in unforseen consequences, teaching him about using them in an indirect way.

I actually wondered about the shooting range on this…it would be nice to have a range similar to the one in blue shift before the test… so a practice before the test which is a bit tricky…

I am wondering if the targets will snap too like wood and gib

and what weapons will be provided…for this… i would suggest.

Glock, magnum, mp5 with secondary and nades.

I was gonna point you in the direction of our old thread, but I’ll just recap here:

The firing range is split into two sections. One new area where the Glock is used, and a second one in the fashion of the original’s firing range (w/ MP5). The targets on both ranges are metal at the moment.

Eeehh… We can discuss using the track (personally I’m against it, too action-y), but I think it’d be a bit much to simulate a battle, and orchestrate it around an old track. It’s a firing range, not assault training.

As we’ve said multiple times before, there’s no reason to teach the player how to use the flares. I can see putting one or two in one of the flashlight rooms, though there’s no real reason to call attention to it. Jeff’s reworking one of the rooms, so I guess we’ll leave it up to him.

made of many func_physbox… It would add a satisfaction to it I think… seeing the targets break apart depending on where you hit it.

I only suggested the magnum because of the aim down sights… No big deal on that… But thats why I said it.

The problem with physboxes is that the engine has limits, that a few of the maps are already pushing.
