Thats why I suggested it maybe being used as side area for some optional “advanced shooting course”,which I imagined could be a very nice touch. After seeing Textfam1guy’s work, I thought it was interesting seeing how he would add something a little different to the original half life as his own personal touch, and I thought you were planning to do the same, unless of course I’m wrong and you would prefer it being quite more similar to half life.
Also I have another question: If the Dev’s offered you to implement your work to the final release, would you allow them or prefer to remain as a mod to mod?
Thats fair enough… It was just an idea to make the targets more interactive… or respond in some way… Perhaps once you get a hit they can twist as a reaction? This is really what I am trying to get at…
Score counter for the target training? and score displayed in the range on an led numeric and recorded at the end of map? Pass marks ratings A / B / C / D (25% each letter of total score possible i.e. A=75% and over)
Headshots count more for example.
Body shots less
Parts of the target that are not scorable…
Target practice levels or rounds where difficulty increase.
Target that you should not hit otherwise you lose points or fail… For example a picture of a scientist… Lol I know it’s ironic but it is funny.
Scientist target example that you must not shoot. (lol)
The targets in the first range sway when shot, if I’m not mistaken.
In the second range it’s just like the original. 9 targets that appear and need to be hit in order to progress.
I thought we went over in the last thread that scoring like this would be unreasonable and complex to implement? We’re trying to teach the player how to shoot, not teach them to be a cop. While it’s a decent idea, it seems a bit complex for the training. There’s not a whole lot that you have to worry about not shooting in Half-Life.
Trust me, there are some changes and “personal touches” we’ve made that are so large that I’m actually worried it. :zip:
Hm. I’m not really sure if there would be any legal ramifications, or anything that we’d be bound by law to. I don’t know what the hell’s going on behind the scenes with the restrictions Valve is putting on them, but if none of that was an issue… Maybe. It’s not something I really care to consider right now, personally.
About the shooting range, will Gina be guiding you (hologram or just voice) through this part, or will it be a security guard? The latter seems more appropriate, even if as Crypt said that part of the course is to teach basic use of weapons, not to make a man out of you.
Also, since it’s a bit weird that the shooting practise is mandatory for the HEV suit training (which research facility would ask its scientists to be able to fire weapons in case of emergency?), would it be possible to have the choice to skip this part and continue the course? Or make Gina or a scientist hint that it’s an optional complementary training for which Freeman signed up, which seems in that way more coherent for the original Hazard Course.
Top secret base - so all persons have to have fire arms training…
Like if you were a chef on a boat you still need to have your full seamanship training…operating lifeboats…etc… Even though you might only be flipping beef burgers
Black Mesa is not as much a top secret base as Aperture. Some sectors are restricted of course, but top secret? It’s not like they have the military stationed directly above them. Also, I’ve never heard of any scientist being asked to use weapons when there are security guards for that matter.
But I agree with bur to keep it simple, I just wanted to point that out.
There’s been a few ideas tossed around about this. I won’t say much (I don’t want anyone on the team to stab me) but we’re trying to nudge at the fact that it’s an unusual requirement. We want to keep it as vague as possible, though, because no one likes canon-meddling. Somewhat unrelated, but there was some talk about explaining that the toxic waste glows because BM adds chemicals to their waste for easy identification. It was shot down pretty quickly because possible canon-fuckery.
Nah, keep it warm for the release. Also I understand how people are reluctant to mess with whatever is canon in the story and what isn’t, as that would go against the intentions of BM’s devs to be as faithful as possible to Half-Life and not deviate too much from it.
Mhm.
Also, I’m sure the community would be beating our doors down if we did anything non-canon. Hell, we’ve already had a complaint that our hologram didn’t look the age Gearbox gave Gina.
We could always just add an extra disclaimer stating that we are in no way affiated with the Black Mesa team.
That’d cut down on 40% of the confusion. The other 60% of MODDB users don’t bother to read stuff, so nothing we do will do any good.
If memory serves me correctly — In the Original Half-Life, during Inbound, the tram ride, the female announcer says something to the effect of a Hazard Course contest for BM personal and that the High Security personal contest will be held in a secure location and can be veiwed on a secure channel.
If this is so I would assume that most BM personal would have to go through the WHOLE Hazazrd Course – weapons training included.
But then the Original Half-Life’s Hazard Course was just to intoduce the player to all of the neat new things HL had to offer, movement practice, new gagets, moveable stuff like wheels, the variety and scope of weapons and jumping.
i have no idea why TehBoxNoob : has added a youtube link in his quote of me . i start to think that “BMS hurt$”
the door on the left is the one you use to wear the suit . the one on the right seems to not open because of the red light at the handle zone
the one ont right could be the one that goes to training , logic
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
