There’s no canon evidence suggesting that Gordon’s HEV training took place on the same day that the resonance cascade did. Furthermore, the training in Half-Life was separate from the main story, and that will be reflected in our version.

Since we’re kinda on the topic of how it’s going to be integrated into BM, I’d like to suggest that we use a separate menu option rather than going through the Chapter selection menu. If we were to add it as a new chapter and have it be the first, we’d have to not only edit the menu scripts, but decompile BM’s maps and/or get access to the source code, depending on how the devs implemented chapters into the mod. And I’m guessing they used code.

So, to make it so we don’t break BM (or have to break our backs), I propose we do it in the style of HL’s WON menu, as an option under “New Game” rather than the Steam menu where the Hazard Course and three difficulties are handled somewhat like chapters.

Works for me. I’m pretty sure that’s how it was done in HL: S IIRC.

My two cents on the topic:

I was thinking that best option for all the BM mods(Uplink, yours) is create a menu option “community extras”:

If you click on it you will have 3 menu options:
1-Play Hazard Course
2-Play Uplink
3- Back to the main menu.

You should talk with Hezus to decide what to do and ,above all, to avoid that your mod will conflict with his and the contrary.

Using the Source Vgui to modify a menu it’s quite easy.

Do you remember Portal 2 main menù?

There was a extras section and I used to add community-made maps modifying a txt file.

Not a big deal… We just should ask it to them.

Edit: I’m trying to learn how to use source Vgui but it seems that the creation of instances of the frames, label,panels etc…are coded.

You can just modify them using the Res files.

But who in our team is a coder :U?

Hezus is doing in this way

He added Uplink in the chapter selection and he’s overwriting Blackmesa subs to add the lines of his mod.

In this way your mods will certainly conflict.

You should discuss with him about this topic.

By the way, I’m translating in italian his subs, when time will come you can count on me for the italian translation.

For the subs you can ask to Hezus to make a file(for each language) that contains the translations of both mods

Apparently Valve broke the SDK or some shit, but I haven’t been on my computer in a couple of days (RAM Died).

Before we go about doing some heavy fussing with any of Black Mesa’s files I think we should wait for Xen. Assuming we finish before Black Mesa’s update swings around, we could probably do with simply having the player go through the console or nudge it into the chapters list, maybe make like HL and put it as a difficulty setting depending on what that’d take. We’d have to do a Xen patch later anyway, so when that comes around we can do all the heavier modifications. Hezus spends quite some time on the forums, so maybe he’d be willing to collab with us in fitting our addons into Black Mesa without them breaking each other.

So about that planned conference. I’m gonna try to get my computer situation fixed within be next week, but if I can’t I’ll be stuck with the mobile Steam app, And I’m not sure whether that supports group chats. I’ve also got Skype on here, which does have group conference support, but whoever doesn’t have a Skype account will need to make one.
