Hazard Course Remake (AVAILABLE NOW!)

Yeah, what he said. We’re trying not to show everything before we’re ready to release, and since we’ve shown a lot already it’s hard to get new stuff up. I doubt anyone’s interested in seeing Dky name door entities, or look at Lars’ straight pipe model.

By the way, we’re not gonna stop working, and even if we did we’d be loud about it. Remember that pretty much all of us are forum regulars, so we’re not just gonna sweep it under the rug and pretend it never happened.

Though if we get too many complaints about no new media, I might be tempted to put up something like that…

Nah it’s fine. Thank you for the update though. I assume the work is now all just little details like that? Anyways, good to know that you guys won’t stop anytime soon. I have seen too many project come and go (it seemed like BMS was one of them at some point), so I was afraid that you guys abandoned ship. This reaffirms me. Yeah, thanks!

If you want some more specifics, yeah, most of the rooms are just detailing, then implementing choreo (which hasn’t been started yet, but really soon). There is one section currently being redesigned, and a another area may be undergoing a redesign soon as well, but that’s all of the major stuff that needs to be done.

Good work on the map, Jif!

Thanks, Crypt!

I love what you wrote about being loud…

That wouldn’t work, since the difficulty setting doesn’t pop up when you press new game like it did in HL1.

^Basically that. A menu option is easier to find to the many players who don’t read readme files, anyway.

This is how my menu looks. Clicking on the button takes you directly to the first map of HC. It does have the downside of not having a confirmation box, so we gotta fix that, somehow.

I just don’t understand why anyone would neglect to announce that their project won’t actually come to fruition. It’s not like it hurts anything.

EDIT: Doesn’t seem like we can add a confirmation box without coding it in.

IMO, it would be best if it was the first chapter in the chapter selection, as chapter 0

There’s one problem with that. The mod, Uplink, is already set up that way. Because of that, the 2 mods would conflict each other if you wanted to play both of them.

So why not release it and have something to alter where uplink goes and have it as some sort of chapter after Lambda Core?
Or are we aloud to do that?

Based on Crypt19’s screenshot, that wouldn’t be necessary.

You can’t really name the Hazard Course chapter 0, that would be calling it an introduction to Half-Life, instead of Inbound which really introduce the main themes of the Black Mesa Research Facility. The course may feature the first time Gordon Freeman tries on the HEV suit, but it has always been optional in the original game. So I believe having a Hazard Course button on the main menu is the best soultion. I’ll just suggest adding “(training course)” to it to make its purpose clear enough.

This. If I recall correctly this is exactly why we opted for a menu option as opposed to it being in the chapter selection.

It can be done. Pretty easily, too. It just makes more sense to assume that anyone who installs HC won’t also have Uplink, but still keep them from conflicting wherever possible. Releasing a patch would be a bit silly when it’s just as easy to avoid the problem altogether.

I’m gonna drop this right here:

Everything by Michael Tannock.

Looks amazing. So she’s going to demonstrate the jumps and crawling into the pipes etc.?

Yep. It’s planned to have at least all of the same demonstrations from the original.

Might I suggest animating her walk as a normal human being, instead of trying to pitifully emulate the tired “video game babe” cycle

I believe he was trying to make it seem like walking in the suit is bulky and awkward, though I can see how sexualized it looks, now that you bring it up.
There’s always room for modifications in this modification!

Here’s another video, entirely by Mr. Mike Tannock. Our stationary holographic projector. CLICKME

I think he did a great job with it. Can’t wait to play the Hazard Course mod!
