Hazard Course Remake (AVAILABLE NOW!)

I do like the projector’s animation, though I wonder if the rotation isn’t a bit strange for such device. Still, that model looks pretty cool, and I like the color variations for each part, it looks already more complex than the original model from HL.

But now there might be a big issue for the hologram movements (for when she demonstrates jumping over pipes, crawling and swimming). Even in the original map that was way too unrealistic, so the only way I can think of is like tracking projectors (maybe a smaller unit than the stationary one, but in greater number in the concerned rooms) that follow the hologram why it executes those movements.

Looking good!!

We already have that figured out.

That is a good idea.

Cool!

Yeah, we actually had a working version of that before this stationary version was ready, heh heh.

Maybe, I don’t know how holography works. But I find the spinning more interesting than if it just sits there beneath the hologram.

Original, for reference:

As far as movements went, I always figured it was projected by nano-emitters.

Oh yeah, the movement is definitely more interesting than none at all, and at least it shows the projector is working, as opposed in HL where it just… stands with no light at all. One could think it’s broken… >.>

And if you’ve already planned the moving holograms, then that’s a good thing done.

EDIT: I forgot to ask, will you use some kind of sound for those working projectors?

Not currently, although at the moment the moving projectors use the Black Mesa tiny motor whine sound when they move.

Definitely a good idea to add sound to the stationary projectors though.

The only sounds I can think of for the projector would be those used for rotating devices, for example those used in the Lambda Complex on the lower parts of the giant teleporter, maybe played lower too. There’s also the HEV charger sound when filling up, but that doesn’t sound really mechanical. :\

maybe the sound of the holo projector of Star Wars?

That sound would have been perfect if the game was set in the 80s! =D

Yeah, I think that’s a bit too 80s sci-fi. The rest of Black Mesa sounds pretty modern and… realistic.

Still, I’d love to see a source mod set in the 80s. But yes, BM looks more like the early 2000s. For example, even in QE (which seems one of the most sci-fi part of the mod) you can find old videotapes and no DVDs. A shame the devs didn’t add more reference to this era, but they kept faithful to the original game’s setting as it was established.

Well , your work is pretty awsome ! I can’t wait to play to it !

Yep still the old classic videotape, they wanted to set a modern environment, but DVD and such didn’t exist (during Valve period).

Black Mesa team could change this to DVD and I guess, they better would…

In movies u saw this aswell, they wanted to create a future with futuristic machine, but due the lack of modern equipement ('70s, '80s) and their lack of knowledge of the future, they made it futuristic their way, with for us old material (computers which are tooo big, …)

I guess we need to see different projectors on the wall, ceiling (based on the place, position it needs to show on) and have such little blue beams making the model:

I wanted to say I really like the security cameras video you did… And things look good for what you are doing in general…

I have done a soundpack and the sounds for the ceiling turrets might be of interest to you…Keep up the good work

Holy cow, its been a while since this thread actually got revived.

How’s work going on the Hazard Course mod?

Well, it’s going. We’ve had to revise/rework some of our extensions, which is the only thing holding back the next closed alpha.

Aside from that, we’re still looking for a choreographer.
