Haha, that’s actually pretty amusing. Nice one.
Now you can all shut the fuck up.
Called it!
YEEEAAAAHHH! This means we can do cool “Welcome to Black Mesa” stuff!
I almost wanna post it on ModDB.
HA.
I KNEW COMMON SENSE WOULD PREVAIL
Thanks, Marc Laidlaw!
This opens up some new options, indeed.
This reminds me, we might need our own FAQ section for the ModDB page.
Done.
Excellent.
I didn’t bother to mention it because I thought it’d be pointless unless I had an answer, by the way. Funny how we can get solid answers only on trivial things.
That’s right, people. Black mesa Hazard Course: Solving Half-Life’s mysteries one email at a time.
That was awful nice of him to clarify that for you guys. Though, then again, what else should I have expected from Valve
This…changes…EVERYTHING
At least belittling the player on “how to move in your hazard suit” is justified now.
But the question on my mind now is if there’s a way to take the suit “off” at the end.
That’s a good point… I doubt they’d let Gordon leave the Hazard Course without returning the suit.
Well that’s going to be an interesting issue to resolve.
Do you guys think it’d be too unfaithful to the original if some of the skills were explained by the overseeing scientists, rather than the holograph system, just to add a little variety?
I was considering that briefly. We’ll see what happens if and when we get a writer.
Awesome!
Hrm, what kind of things would your writer be writing, if I may ask?
Come to think of it, I’d be more than willing to work as a writer on this, so long as I received proper direction on what kind of writing you want and got good feedback on what to change between drafts. I have no prior mod-writing experience, though, so I understand if that’s a fatal turn-off. I’ll also admit that I’ve criticized this mod on earlier pages in an ignorant, mean-spirited way, so if that’s a fatal turn-off, I’d certainly understand that. I think I could keep a suitable work schedule, meet reasonable deadlines, though, considering the time scales over which mods like this are produced - and I think I could inject enough originality to make it a remake without being a retread.
One of the parts that warrants using actual people would be the firing ranges.
While the Glock delivery system is cool, a security guard checking you out a gun would be more practical.
Of course, we need a choreographer to have him get a gun from a lockup and hand it to you and stuff.
If you keep going back to him for more magazines he could make jokes about your aim.
That would be both an animation thing and a choreography thing.
Choreographers can’t create animations. They have to work with animations that are pre-set by animators, which means the guard model would have to be recompiled with new animations if you want him to hand you a weapon, for example. Unless there already is one that the BM devs created and used, but I don’t recall that sort of animation existing.
Plus the Glock system is a nice automated way of doing something that the Hazard Course team likely doesn’t want to keep doing themselves. Up to debate. There is a lot about the idea that could use tweaking.
At the least, I think having a human “instructor” present in both shooting ranges should be done. I mean, they just hired you, why would they leave you alone in a room full of guns?
That is very true, and it is also something that I have been considering for the past few days. I haven’t made any changes to the room yet though since I’m still considering how that might be done.
It’s possible that I may wait for a writer to come on board so that together we can figure out what exactly might be going on in that room.
