actually, the tutorial is generally an after thought to most teams, the thing is it is generally one of the most IMPORTANT parts of the game. Teaching the mechanics of the game is important while just throwing them in sucks and can kill the game.
That said the way black mesa and half life 2 teach the basics is good enough.
Also true. Honestly the vast majority of the “stuff” that’s in there won’t even be seen on the first playthrough through the Course, which would only take about 20 minutes max, if you take the time to smell the roses.

I have no idea. Probably however long it takes for the BM devs to fix the workshop and all the broken entities that are required for the Hazard Course to function, plus the amount of time it takes to fix all our assets to make them work in the Steam version, plus the amount of time it would take to add all the nifty little things that we don’t have time to do for the mod release.
So… a while, at a guess.
Well, to address DKY,
- The Workshop limit will be removed this month. This isn’t an issue.
- The broken entities probably won’t be fixed this month. We have no idea if/when they will be, but that’s entirely on Crowbar Collective to fix. This is a big issue, and one out of our control.
- From my personal experimenting early on, most if not all of our assets should be fine as is. We might need to tweak some to get them to work, but overall the workload shouldn’t be high.
It’s all something we’ll look into more after mod release. Steam version is on When It’s Done status, we’re not going to worry about it until after the free version’s release.
I’ll be fixing up some assets that I think aren’t the highest of quality for the Steam release. I’ve been doing that lately, but I won’t have time for all of them. Additionally, we’ll be fixing up any issues people discover w/ the free version, and probably be taking in feedback and addressing that as we see fit.

Though it’s a bit off-topic, what are these broken entities you speak of?
logic_playerproxy, mostly. It’s required for several reasons, most notably in the health charger training, in which I use it to detect if the player has reached full health before allowing them to continue. I also use it throughout the Course to detect if the player has died or dropped to a certain health level, and react accordingly.
