Has the BM website been slow lately?

I’ve been getting a “database error” about once a day for the last few days - one just happened a few minutes ago. Seemed to last about 5 minutes or so (I just happened to be browsing this thread a few minutes prior). I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, but I attached an image anyway.

Oh, and I tried the downforeveryoneorjustme thing and it said it wasn’t just me.

EDIT: was going to say the site seems to be running great other than the occasional database errors, which it does, but got another one when I hit the edit button…

Ya one of the other sites on the server was using an insanely high amount of RAM/CPU and I had to do a restart. Everything should be fine now since that account is now suspended.

Well I had a slight hiccup again just now where the site stopped responding, not sure if the issue is still there or if that was just on my end.

And here I was thinking BM release day had come. :frowning:

sigh everytime someone says that…

old joke is so old you should STOP FUCKING SAYING IT

I don’t think it’s a joke, man…

At this time… Something like that could really mean that it is the release :jizz:

Exactly.

wow, you guys are serious…

I lol’d

I remember when I was still hoping for release every time the server slowed down… Ah, precious childhood.

Might as well call me Peter Pan, cause I’m never going to grow out of it.

smell like a man…

…man.

:frowning:

whoa! did you feel that lag!?

Seeing your guys’ reaction to a bit of down time makes me wonder how well the server will handle when the mod is actually released haha. I’m guessing we’re going to have to stick to a static HTML homepage for a while.

TBH, it could be 50 bytes big and we’d probably still crash your webserver.

Just delete everything off the server

You could try setting up memcached for the forums, although I don’t think it would make a huge difference unless you have a second server to use.

Alternatively, to avoid the entire server crashing, set up the BM site in a virtual server, so in the case of the the server going down, only the virtual server needs to reboot which would be faster than the entire server (And it would stop your other sites from going down too)

That all sounds really complicated. It’s a good thing that we won’t have to worry about it for a long, long time.

longer than you think eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

Couldn’t have put it better myself

On topic, what was the deal with the other site using large amounts of resources? Why / how?

haha. Well one of the other sites on the server was serving ads and I guess one of the sites that used their ads must have gotten on Digg or something bc there was an insane amounts of requests. Long story short they didn’t have caching setup at all so all the MySQL calls crashed everything. First MySQL crashed which then caused the BMS forums to show the DB error message and start sending out a shitload of emails to me and hubi, which then clogged up the mail server, meanwhile all the requests continued to come in and everything was just one big clusterfuck. At one point the server load was 60+… (Usually it stays right around 0.5-1.0)
