Halo: Reach VGA Trailer

Since I know this is OBVIOUSLY the best place to host this topic, since I know you ALL love the Halo franchise [/sarcasm][/SIZE], I would like to discuss last night’s VGA trailer for Halo: Reach.

First of all, if Bungie isn’t pulling any of that CGI bullshit like they have done in the past, I will shit bricks. The detail on the SPARTAN armor is incredible, and the way they walk doesn’t look as cartoony as before.

Also, I have noticed that Mary O’Donnel is back to being the John Williams of video games as always. The music in the trailer is nothing short of epic. Though I hope some of the slow, beautiful tracks from the New Mombasa levels in ODST return for Reach, though I have no idea on how they would work since what was great about the music was the fact that you’re alone, in the dark, and everyone wants to kill you. If you’re a SPARTAN, you can handle all of that because YOU’RE A FUCKING SPARTAN!

So yeah, this game looks like another awesome Halo game. It’s great that Bungie is releasing a Beta for the game with ODST, especially since it eases the kick in the balls Microsoft gave us for charging full price for 3/4 of a “full” game.

But, I know I’m stupid for starting a thread in the BMS forums, where everyone is a PC fanboy. This thread will probably be driven off topic to an offense (Halo sux lol!) defense (no, Halo rullllzzzz! lol!) “debate” by Page 2. Imonfire and Collision will do that “HAHAHAHAHA” shit and all of the Halo fans in the forums will desperately try to stay on topic, but will be too busy fending off trolls when obviously they shouldn’t even be reading this topic since they don’t like Halo.

Also, WOO-HOO! ELITES ARE BACK! FUCK YEAH!

This is probably a Halo game I’ll consider getting.

After getting the original Halo for Xbox when it came out I was hooked on the Halo series.
Up until Halo 3 it was one of my favourite game series, however my opinion of it had gone down considerably with the release Halo Wars and Halo 3: ODST.
Man they were bad.
The trailer for Reach looks awesome however so did the trailers for Halo 3 + ODST.
I am not expecting much.

Halo Wars wasn’t made by Bungie, and Halo 3: ODST was just a standalone expansion to Halo 3. But regardless, I thought ODST was great, so I don’t understand what you’re saying.

But I’m using the “Yahtzee” method of waiting for games. ie don’t give a shit until the reviews are in and the game is out.

A trailer is only any good if it contains gameplay. Otherwise it is an uterly meaningless movie.

There’s going to be a playable beta before the game is released. There is little need for gameplay in the trailer.
Though it would be cool.

I might get it, but there really isn’t enough info out about it yet to confirm my purchase. Looks rather promising, though.

Never owned a halo game, but this just seems like milking the franchise…

Yeah, the 5th main game in a franchise that’s been around for 9 years. That’s soooooo milking!

The same thing happens with every other Halo game. There’s a kick ass trailer (with no gameplay) that gets everyone excited, but we have no idea what it’s going to be like.

However, this time they said they’re cutting the CGI bullshit they pulled with these trailers:

So yes, everything in the Reach trailer is in-game and fap-worthy.

Milking it or not, people want to experience it instead of just reading it. I for one am interested and hope to have my new rig by the time it’s released, job pending, it’s looking good so far.

And no game play is needed for the trailer, you know what they’re capable of graphics wise today and know that they don’t mess with games like this. It’s on my list of things to play.

3 Halo games in 2 years and another on the way. You don’t call that milking? I call that a dairy farm, my friend.

I don’t count Halo Wars as a “real” Halo game. ODST was just a side project that went above expectations for Bungie, which Microsoft responded by charging full price (ie, blame Microsoft.) Halo: Reach is the next “true” Halo game since Halo 3.

Besides, as long as the games are great IMO, I’m fine with it the dairy farm.

I’m sorry to tell you this but… Halo: Reach is an XBox 360 exclusive.

Shocking plot twist! [/sarcasm]

Well. he was talking about upgrading his rig by the time the game was released. I was worried.

It was dead when I started this thread.

I hope that they keep Forge, and I hope that the new multiplayer has a Firefight playlist.

From what I can tell from the trailer, the soundtrack learns something from Combat Evolved and ODST, and keeps the generic recycled Halo 2/3-type “30 seconds whining string instuments” to a minimum.

I still don’t get why all the SPARTANs (especially the women) are all 7’ tall in their armor, regardless of how tall they actually happen to be.

I get the feeling that after this is released and Bungie hands off the franchise to somebody else, that company will consider remaking the first game with the newer and chunkier art style that the series has adapted. Not that I want that to happen, but it could be interesting.

Also, FUCK YEAH ELITES. I wonder if Bungie made any helmet permutations for them that actually shows of their mandibles.

Yeah, if Reach has Firefight matchmaking, then I’m calling it right now: GAME OF THE YEAR!!!
Also, I hope they upgrade Forge significantly. Like, Far Cry 2 significantly.

I played Halo 1 today after not touching it for a long time. Brings back so many memories. Having melee fights with Elites just feels so… majestic.

Trailer looks pretty badass.

If only the characters were less generic.

I mean, the EVA with the skull spraypaint? It looks badass, doesn’t it? Too it’s a rip-off Ghost from Modern Warfare 2!

At least Master Chief is the franchise’s iconic character. But the nameless tough guys from ODST and this is just proof that Bungie can just barely tell a good story.

that’s a bit of a stretch. MW2 didn’t exactly create the “elite soldiers who paint a skull on their face/helmet/mask because it looks cool” paradigm. Not that i don’t think it’s a cliche.
