Why do so many people feel the need to try to make games into movies?
Most games tell a story, and if it’s a good game then it’s likely that the story was told well. Why can’t we leave it at that? Why can’t the game be a story’s delivery system? If the game’s so great, just play the damn game. You don’t need a movie to retell it again.
Books are one thing, games are another. Games are already a visual entertainment source, we don’t need to re-present each great game in a less interactive way.

A Half Life movie would need to be NOT made by Hollywood but more in the style of the “Children of Men” Movie adaptation.
All through watching that movie I was reminded of Half Life 2 - Locations, art, visual style and music and was a bloody good sci fi film - One of the best.
No, I sure hope no one does, the Half Life series is meant to be purely for gaming. And it would suck to have Gordon mute through the whole movie. I’m pretty sure everyone with ‘some’ sense agrees.
Dude if you think the movie will suck, let me remind you of Ingmar bergman’s “Det sjunde inseglet”. A whole fucking movie about two people playing chess, and people call it a masterpice!

The problem may be for the movie <> game relationship is that both movies and games get inspiration from books and other sources, so when the transition takes place the ideas behind them are distilled too much.
For example a delicious chunky smoothy (the book) being strained to get the lumps out to create a mixed fruit juice (the movie or game) which more people may prefer, but then that mixed fruit juice is filtered again to make something that’s more water then juice (the movie tie-in or video game movie) so is not often any good.
Gordon not talking wouldn’t be the problem, that would just be a fresh change from the usual babble. Besides, the other characters would do the talking.
The problem would be how to make a really good film and do the game justice, which is why a film probably shouldn’t be made.
I already said that.
Maybe Gordon could have a voice! Maybe even the excact same voice as Barney! Caues They are really TWINS!!!
