I’m really disappointed nobody has brought up Beyond Black Mesa. Actual, fan-made film shot on $1200. It’s done and everything, I think it’s even been screened. Supposed to release sometime in the middle of this month. Looking forward to trying to get my hands on the special edition DVD.

I talk about HL movies with a buddy of mine a lot. We’ve decided it would have to be shot first person. The idea of using CGI makes it even better. Basically HL:the game: the movie. If taken in an artistic direction, but kept true to the story and feel of HL, I think it could work.

Alternatively, I just thought this one up: shot through a series of characters over the course of Black Mesa. Different perspectives that tell the story. Maybe jumping around to different timelines and allowing the person watching to piece it all together perhaps a la Pulp Fiction. It could start out somewhere near the middle with a drop ship full of HECU grunts bullshitting and talking about the mission, perhaps cut to some scientists trying to survive, or whatever. Splice in scenes following Gordon on his asskicking rampage, but in a way so that he doesn’t need to talk.

I don’t know just spit balling here.

I think Murray would be good as Breen. His voice also has some of the same tone to it. Has he ever played a serious role? The closest thing I can think of is Scrooged, but that’s still a comedy.

Danny Glover could definitely work as Eli, but Eli was modeled after Morgan Freeman, so I’d love for him to play the character.
