Anybody think it would be possible to make halflife 1 work Ipone iOS. Gta3 was ported to ios, I think that halflife would be fun on the iPad. If that wer to happen I can smash crates with a crowbar wile riding the bus. Hmmmm… the freemanpad :freeman:
I can see Gabe going on stage at E3 with an iPad and people would be confused but than he turns it on and he is killing the final boss (forgot how to spell name…) sooooooooooo, what do YOU think.
The IOS control mechanics (ie touch) does not suit an FPS in the slightest, unless its on rails, and even then it still has not been done great… I would work fine with a controller, but then you just might as well play it on the PC anyway…
True about the controls, it would be hard. Although modern combat did a good job. The main problem would be jump and crouch for long jump and the use key might have issues.
Epic Castle did a pretty good job of making FPS work. It’s different, but worked fine and it’s not like HL had a ton of controls to begin with.
I don’t see how it wouldn’t work, other than a ton of people saying how shitty it is because Apple is for faggots.
Anyone who says this hasn’t tried a good iOS FPS.
For a good bare bones FPS pick up BFBC2. That’s an example of how controls could be done for HL.
^this
In his most recent interview, Gabe Newell said that iOS wouldn’t be profitable enough and Apple would keep the majority of the profits anyway.
Even the “best” touch screen controls for FPS games are garbage. The fact that a few of them are barely acceptable as opposed to completely useless isn’t exactly high praise.
I still can’t believe no one has made a decent Bluetooth controller for these things. You can hack it and use a Sony controller and play Onlive games and such, but there’s still nothing official out there that is even halfway decent.
If we’re talking Half-Life handhelds, what Valve should really do is commission someone to make another spinoff FPS for the Vita. That wouldn’t make a lot of financial sense, obviously, but it sure would be cool.
I would like it if apple would actually develope a case for the iPod,iPad that acts as a controller and has an optional battery pack for hard core games. The iPad controller case would be a bit tricky. Another thing that should be done to ios is making it more open and less restricted. Make it easier to get to the files. I did manage to mod gta3 on my iPad. I added an NYPD ford police car
Well, would you look at that horribly designed number.
It’s like someone shoved a tablet into a shitty 3rd party gamepad from the late 90’s.
Eww.
iPad sucks for gaming anyway. Smaller iOS devices (ala’ iPhone/iTouch) on the other hand…
One thing for sure that would be cool is BLACK MESA SOURCE FOR IOS!!! Lol
Now, let’s bug the developers shall we? Muahahahahahahahahaha
and add another 8+ years to the development cycle? no thanks lol
Fuck iOS, android works with PS3/X360/Wii controllers, or any USB/Bluetooth input device for that matter.
I’m genuinely impressed at the graphics those iOS devices manage, but the control scheme would be horrible. I genuinely think most of these mobile developers need to rethink their game genres much more towards something fitting of a touch-screen; management games, things that mostly involve slowly-made decisions by touching the screen from a menu. They can still be graphically impressive, I just find high-paced action doesn’t work on a touchscreen.
I actually bought Sid Meier’s Pirates on my WP7, and was delighted to find it was pretty much the whole game, fully playable, with nothing cut out - it just fits the platform well.
Defeats the purpose
With management games it would be nice to have a descent transport tycoon game but with out kiddy graphics and one that you pay for and won’t require to pay past you’re basic content. I hate it when there is a good game and then you need Facebook coins or som crap
Like that to go on.
Valve isn’t interested in portable games anyway.
Now, maybe the iPhone isn’t the best choice for a FPS, but what about the smartphone-like Vita? Not to be too off-topic, but think about it- it has buttons and analog sticks. If Valve changes their mind about portable games, my money’s on the Vita as their choice. It wouldn’t be that different than using a PS3 or XBOX controller. Valve and Apple don’t really mix- or to be more precise, apples would just get caught in the valves and clog up the pipes. Also, HL on the Vita would really boost sales of the system- it really needs that now. Even if they only released HL and nothing else on the Vita just for nostalgia, I’d be happy with it.
that… basically sums up Gabe’s speech on Apple (he said they have created yet another tech bubble, a passing trend and are milking it till the bubble bursts and things go back to normal, after wasting a lot of people’s time and money)
