Did anyone else notice that the VGA website mentions that there will be a “Special Announcement” at the VGAs?
It always does. There always is. That’s kinda the whole point of the VGAs now, as the actual awards don’t mean shit. It just means that if an RPG wins we’ll get a version with all dlc for free in the next year.

a half a year marketing window is an absolute minimum, then we have the fact valve will want to announce it at a bigger event, and the fact it wont want to compete with its own dota 2 and cs go. Addding all that up i can only see a Christmas 2012 or 2013 release for hl3.
