While that is true, Valve hasn’t touched it, so there may yet be hope.
They could do things the Prince of Persia way and have in-engine cutscene videos play while the next area loads, a la “Sands of Time.” Driving into a tunnel in Highway 17 could be obscured by a video of Gordon driving through the tunnel towards the speck of light that gradually gets closer. Obviously this wouldn’t work for every area- on foot stuff would be significantly more difficult to bridge, visual-wise.
I lol’d
Yes, I agree.
False, it’s the 5th rendition of Half-Life, first version was original, then dreamcast, then playstation 2, then source, now Black Mesa.
We all know HL3 will be released before Black mesa source and then people wont care about Black mesa as much just have kinda given up hope to play the mod before I grow a beard and start using a cane just waiting[/SIZE]
You sir, are a retard.
Thank you for putting it in all caps. My sight has been drifting as of late and you’re such a nice person for being so considerate.
It’s not in all-caps - just sayin.
I suspect that a few of the new members are the same guy - a lot of this stuff is the same theme.
And, hey, manky - new Pony! Good for you. Friendship is magic!
Anyways, I think that you can’t really compare HL3 with Black Mesa, as they are developed by entirely different teams, and they are entirely different games.
I think HL3 will be out first, we all thought Black Mesa would be out before Duke Nukem Forever, so let’s not break tradition.
I wonder who got butthurt and made another profile?
not me, I already have a beard… just sayin.
Not me either. Because I’m not ten. [EDIT] And yeah I’m going to throw my money down with HL3 being out before Black Mesa. Purely because of the time frame. Valve went away for five years between HL and HL2. Its been five years since HL2 Episode 2, and if what you guys are trying to tell me is right, then they have spent five years in silence purely working on the game, and not having to code an engine this time… So I’m firmly putting my bet in for E3 or a similar event this year for the announcement, and if I’m wrong I guess I get flamed. Plus add a year until release.
I would be surprised if Valve doesn’t announce HL2Ep3/HL3 at E3. But Valve’s E3 presentation, regardless of what that may be, won’t mean that one will be released before the other. I suspect that BM will be released before HL3.
I honestly believe Black Mesa will be released first.
Unless it turns out that Valve has been developing HL3 in secret and the pop out at E3 and pelt people in the head with it, screaming “HEREZ UR GAM BITCHEEEZZZ!!!”
But that would be fluky.
Black mesa will come first.
Portal 2 was released last year. Now, they are probably starting the real work on HL2 EP3.
I say:
Black Mesa- 2013? Probably the middle of the year.
Half Life 2 Episode 3- well, my guess would be late 2014- three years of development. It will probably be as long as Episode 2, if not longer. It’s not going to be as big as HL2 (or 3, if ever), so it won’t take six years.
HL3- six years later- 2020. Otherwise, it will be when the sun goes nova.
Just my guesses.
They also had to develop Portal 2.
They probably were working on EP3 before P2, which they wouldn’t have started developing until 2008 or so, when it was clear Portal was a “surprise” success (ha ha).
I’ll bet that they were still working on EP3 during P2’s development, but not at full throttle. After all, Portal 2 was a pretty expansive (maybe not the longest) game. I bet they also needed a break from working on HL.
Now that P2’s released and Chell is in a wheat field somewhere they are back on track. EP3 won’t be as long as HL2- it will probably be around the same size as EP2 (hopefully a bit longer!). I’m guessing it will take at least as long to develop as the other episodes. EP3 is at most three years away.
That being said, I’d love to hear a surprise at E3.
E3- EP3???
It’s actually the sixth. first version was the original CD version, then came Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Original Half-Life with Steam integrated, Source, and now Black Mesa.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
