Half-Life 3 to be at GamesCon

I actually believe that HL3 will be there and that Valve made a mistake asking it to be listed. Why would GamesCon remove Half-Life 3 and not Assassins Creed 3 if both were mistakes?

They aren’t showing any new games? Maybe they will show source 2 :open_mouth:

S.T.R.I.K.E.7 Keyboard Trailer shows a Half Life 3 icon on the small screen… conspiracy i tells ya!!

They clearly seem to what to include to get more video views.

STOP #%##%#%$ WITH MY MIND, VALVE!!

Half Life 3 was supposed to be on the list of Gamescon 2079 someone made a mistake on putting it on the list of Gamescon 2012

That could be true

Can’t wait on Gamescon 2079

Ah, this is the oldest trick in the book… do a tiny bit of work and get folks on interwebs panties in a twist. Tons of free marketing/advertising. Kind of reminds me of BM’s latest marketing efforts… which also reminds me; didn’t devs mention something about steady stream of media? Surely we should have gotten more than the small handful of screenshots by now… what was that, back in May? Everyone: Torches and pitchforks!!

We got a gameplay video.

And it, too, was a mistake.

An awesome, unexpected mistake.

Be it Black Mesa or Valve, someone better release a fucking Half-Life game soon. I’ve got a massive case of gamer blueballs here.

The thing is, the BM team are very close to a launch. We’ve been getting regular updates over the past few years about progress. Nobody has heard anything about HL3/EP3 at all. No potential release dates. No screenshots or videos. No word that it’s even in production. You can’t draw parallels between them. I gave up waiting for EP3 a year or so ago when I realised Valve had higher priorities than the Half-Life series at the moment. Of course they’ll return to it eventually, and I’ll be looking forward to that time. But I’m not your typical Half-Life drooling-over-concept-art fan, Googling Episode Three on a daily basis. When it comes, it comes. And it will probably be pretty good.

Just because they don’t announce anything doesn’t mean it’s not being worked on. For a game with this amount of hype around it I prefer this way anyway. Just work on it and don’t hype it by yourself. You don’t even really need to advertise it, it’ll sell a lot anyway.

I am. I love the FPS genre, and I haven’t had a really, really good one since Crysis. 5 years ago.

There have been some decent ones like Crysis 2 and Singularity, but in general the last half a decade has been pretty dry. I’m dyin’ here.

If someone else announces a really killer-looking single-player FPS, I’m down for that too, but it’s unlikely.

What about the Stalker games? CoP came out in 2009. But yeah I agree, we need something to shake up the genre again. Crysis was a huge step forward and we’ve pretty much yet to surpass it or in a lot of cases even match it. Crysis was about graphics for the most part and I hope HL3 is about physics and AI, the things that people don’t usually think about.

Stalker is amazing, but I guess I categorize it differently since it’s such a slow-burning, exploratory sim. RIP.

But as far as really good looking, traditional FPSes go, nobody but Valve seems likely to deliver.

Of course they do not need to advertise HL3… it is going to sell like flapjacks… but getting everyone all jazzed (and jizzed :jizz  will really add to initial launch success. I guarantee you that what tiny efforts goes into shenanigans like this pays off in major spades. It’s all about mind share, which is the holy grail in marketing… No way this was this a mistake.

Also, you blokes talkin’ jive about dry spells and nothing to play should check out Rage… I am fuckin’ lovin’ this game. So immersive. Such diversity. Yeah, it is quite retarded when you spin around and shit is getting drawn in at sides etc… and the discrepency between high and low res textures is a little unseemly… but dang is this game addictive. Think I got it for under ten bones. Next time it is on sale (66% or better), do yourselves a favor and snag it.

I also recommend Rage, its a really tight shooter but don’t go in it expecting an RPG or whatever like they advertized expect what id does best, great shooters. Its only like 20$ not on sale though so if you are that cheap I guess. It is a nice thing to get by this period of mediocre war shooters.

Also have you made your local app data folders? Rage doesn’t do that a lot, and after I did it I got 60 fps and literally no noticeable problem with texture pop-in.

three options:

  1. It really was a mistake
  2. it was a mean easter egg
  3. gabe wants to hide it from fans
the most plausible is option 1 unfortunately, damn them, they tease the shit outta us.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
