Half Life 2 running slow

I recently got a new PC, one that’s much faster than my previous one. It’s able to play all sorts of graphically demanding games at a pretty decent framerate, but for some reason it has a problem with Half Life 2.

This makes no sense, because my old 1.86Ghz Core 2 Duo machine could run that game perfectly well at 1080p with all of the settings set to the highest level. It doesn’t run horrible on my current machine, but it seems to stutter a bit. I mean, my computer runs Portal just fine, so why does it have a problem with HL2?

Have you updated to the newest set of drivers and DirectX?

Makes sure windows is fully updated too

No, we’re all consolefags and won’t be able to play the mod we’ve spent years following :retard:

I meant to take that part out. I posted this on another forum and then copy and pasted it here.

I haven’t updated Windows in a while, so I’ll try that.

is it a pirated copy or an original one?

If you downloaded it from steam, try reinstalling the game.

How do you expect us to even try to help you without even posting computer specs?
This is pretty much what you said:

"hey guys i got a new pc but it lags help me :frowning: "

Core i7-950 3.06Ghz, Radeon HD 5850, 8GB DDR3 RAM, ASUS P6T motherboard. I installed it from the Orange Box, and then I think Steam updated it.

Got enough space on your hard drive?

If you have no problems with running Portal, then i suggest you to reinstall HL2. With that specs you should have 60+ frames on highest vid settings with max filtering and antialiasing

disable motion blur, multicore rendering, color correction and vsync

It runs perfectly if I disable v-sync (the little fps monitor thing says 300fps), but the screen tearing annoys me.

does this problem occur with the episodes and tf2 aswell or just half life 2?

screen tearing shouldnt occur, you should probably update your graphics drivers

also, make sure your hard disc isn’t too fragmented or too full

no dickface, screen tearing is perfectly normal if you disable vsync

to fix open console and type FPS_MAX 60

I used to have the same problem. Good computer, but orange box engine games would stutter annoyingly. This fixed it for me:

i’ve never ever had screen tearing and i always disable vsync (because it sucks)

What does vsync even do?

wikipedia is your friend.

Google is literally keystrokes away, bro.

Also, acade, your sig is diabolical.
