Half Life 2 in HL1 Graphic

Really? I bought their game, why would they mind me playing around with an early test version of it?
Hm, okay. I’ll pretend I didn’t ever hear of this.

lol, that alpha build was only an internal build Valve made in GoldSrc to test ideas and shit. It’s nowhere to be downloaded and it doesn’t resemble the final HL2 game in no way possible.

To correct people:
There was never a Half-Life2 Alpha made on GoldSrc, what some of you may be thinking of is the “Get Your Free TVs” test, made in 2001.
That was the Source engine, but people commonly mistake it as GoldSrc due to the HUD being the same as the HL1 and the low polygon count (That people forget was common in 2001, polygon counts and texture sizes didn’t start jumping up until 2004)

What you see in Get Your Free TVs are the original “Gas mask” citizens of City 17, back when the chapter Air Exchange was in Half-Life2.

That’s what my memory serves me (Besides the image links)

EDIT: This image shows the gasmask citizens in 2003

I would play it and I would love to help, but I have only been modelling for about a week. :stuck_out_tongue:

If this project is really going serious, let us know, I’d love to help.

Yes, we need people to help - what can you do?

Well, I am learning to model at teh moment. I would love to take part in doing something like this. I have been modelling for about a week  but am eager to learn.

You can see a brick I have made here:

Not to start a flame war or anything, but I’m not sure the huge amount of effort would be worth it. It would only attract serious HL fans (regular gamers wouldn’t be too interested in playing a new game in last-gen graphics), and even those serious HL fans would probably play through it once or twice for the nostalgia effect, then let it go.

It just wouldn’t have enough of a pull factor to justify the intense amount of work required, IMHO. :expressionless:

EDIT: Oh wow, is this project really getting started? If so, then I hope you pull it through to the end. No matter what the end result is, I hate seeing projects begun and dropped in the middle of progress.

. . . Why?

We’ve had so many people tell us that exact same thing; read the last couple pages, for example.

I know lol, what I’m looking for is your justification for it, besides the nostalgia factor or the lulz.

I mean, you can do whatever you want lol, but do you feel that it would be worth the effort?

From what I hear, you are going to have to reprogram nearly everything, remodel nearly everything and also possibly retexture everything. I don’t think it’ll be worth it tbh. :stuck_out_tongue:

Of course I feel it’s worth the effort; otherwise I wouldn’t do it.
I’m just kind of tired of people trying to convince me not to do this. I know what I’m doing :hmph:

Some mapping and sound engineering.

Nice. Okay well we need some more potential team members if we want to start being serious about this. If we can get at least one of each type of required developer for early development of this mod, then I’ll get serious about it and set up a website for it and such.

Alright then guys, best of luck if this is really going to happen. I would help mind you, but this project does sound quite impossible! :stuck_out_tongue:

What about the obvious hl1/gldsrc menu from the alpha? Or was that also just a placeholder??

EDIT: Also, I can help with the mod: Moral Support :stuck_out_tongue: OR If anyone wants to teach me how to model/map I’d be more than willing, I’m pretty handy with most things on the computer, I learn fast, I just need someone to teach me properly.

Knock yourself out, Crikulus. Tutorials and tools galore. Make sure to read them all before going to the forums!

I will model for you, but as I said I have only been modelling for about a week.

also a good free webhost is wwww.000space.com the only problem is that macaffee says it is a phishing site (even though it isnt) so it doesnot appear on google.

You got a screenshot of this HL1/GoldSrc menu?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
