Half-life 1 on the HIGHEST settings possible preview

Ever wondered how the original half-life looks with the HIGHEST resolution, textures, shadows etc?

I modified the mat_picmip to -10 and all setting were set on highest, which gives you the highest quality texture you can get. Also, I download a high resolution pack to make some textures seem better.

These picture were taken using HL1: Source. Also, soon I will make a video.

NOTE: A.A is on the highest (May seem low because picture is confined to a small square) To see the HD picture, click on the image and download.

What do you think?

Looks the same to me.

Same here. I’m not noticing any difference, and I don’t even use HL: S. I just use HL1 with High Def Pack.

Oh, wait. I think I see it a little bit. I usually end up with a sorta ring around my view where textures that are further away get rendered in less detail. I guess that’s neat, but doesn’t make a terribly huge difference to me.

Uhh… you guys don’t even notice the GREAT increase in resolution? I mean seriously, YOU CAN READ THE SIGNS!

Looks great!

It does look decent, but being a retro game over 10 years old I wouldn’t really consider a Hi-Def graphics boost to be anything all that noteworthy. The models are still so blocky that the textures are nearly overpowered.

That’s hardly noticeable and besides its not much of an improvement.

I disagree, the details in the original are blurred beyond recognition, while these ones are clearly readable. It’s very noticeable.

Sorry. Just took a quick look and didn’t even realize it. It’s more detailed and Brother Shrike is right. However, it is still not much of an improvement.

I’ve done this about 3 years ago. I made a youtube video and everything.

This would be impressive if you did not use a hi-res texture pack, cheater.

Also, uploading in bmp format? GTFO off my internets please. > :frowning:

I don’t think he did… did he?
EDIT: Yep.

Its kinda funny how a way to make HL1 look slightly better is being posted on a forum dedicated to making HL1 into the Source engine.

My point is that sure, this is perhaps a slight increase in graphics quality, but personally I would either play the original, unmodified HL1, or wait for Black Mesa Source to be released once and for all. Nothing in between.

EDIT:

Yeah, he did.

I have noticed that the High Definition Pack for Half-Life looks pretty good, however the HD Pack for Half-Life: Source does WAY better transforming the weapons, models, and textures into sharp detailed, lighting-influenced beauties. Half-Life with the addon still gets the models and HD pack weapons and all that jazz, but the weapons aren’t that detailed and shiny and the models and textures aren’t super sharp and crisp like in Source version.

I’m pretty sure it obvious but some people have the urge to disagree.

Oh, man…
This is what GoldSrc engine can:

Did you make that? If not, where can i get it?

Redhotpengy, HLFX-engine+SD-pack+textures from some canceled goldsrc-mod (I’ve forgot that’s name)+my texture of world map which used in my mod.

But that combination have a bugs.

That may be irrelivant for me because I only have HL:Source, but thanks for taking the time to tell me!

That looks like Diamond’s mod, https://www.moddb.com/mods/diamond-half-life-final. I use that mod for opposing force and blue shift, but unfortunately it doesn’t work with HL:S. Thankfully there is ANOTHER mod that works for HL:S that uses models from this. The only problem is that the weapons seem to be too far in front of Gordon. You can download it here https://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=738169.

[WARNING]You need an svn program to download it, enjoy!

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
