Great Mod! But please BRING BACK THE M16!

I could careless also. MP5 or M16 I dont care, but I do care when someone acts the way this guy is. I know he is already on my shit list cause I do not respect those that lie.

Now on the topic of bringing the M16 back, I dont care. I just want the rifle to be made useful. Four HECU`s pop up and you go from 250 rounds down to just 50 rounds left. That seems a little on the excessive side to me.

I know, which is why I tried to get back on topic with my last post.

I didnt come here to argue he said she said type bs. I came here to talk about this game and to get the most out of it.

On topic of this, its hard to say. I like the M16 rifle but I have little desire to push for it being included/added offically.

Rusty, thank you for getting back on topic. I agree, the M16 might be nice but it seems wholly unnecessary in most respects.

Yep. I say we have the MP5 lets use it but make it more useful. I spent half the game using either the cross bow or the .357 magnum revolver when dealing with soldiers. My second play through I did have fun using the MP5 shooting the fire doors crushing HECU grunts as well as rolling grenades under the almost closed door. Besides that the MP5 just seemed useless to me unless I was able to get head shots off on the HECU grunts.

That is when you take it to private messages.

I agree the mp5 eats ammo like a fat guy eats chips (or popcorn…or candy…or just food in general) but I found myself often using short bursts or trying out new weapons or tactics. Hell, I found myself throwing explosive barrels and using my other weapons more than in the original. I barely used most of my explosives in the original, but now I found myself shifting to tripmines and other fun things. I know it is like the primary weapon, but I feel that things were spread out a bit more rather than overpowering 1 gun. I know people are using the revolver and crossbow more but that is just how things work out until you are forced to reload in the middle of a firefight.

I’d suggest you ninja edit less in the future - because I didn’t see you contesting what I’ve said there before that post. Touche, my wording was crap - I meant to say that lever action rifles are less common/prominent period compared to your usual bolt-action and semi-auto/assault counterparts - but no need to throw accusations of me lying when you add stuff to posts after I’ve already replied to them.

Hope it clears things up a bit. Thanks.

I still don’t understand why people were trying to use a submachine gun to shoot things farther away than 25 feet and expect accurate results- I feel that the MP5 in Black Mesa was WAY better than the MP5 in HL1, and I used it far more- but only in the appropriate context (or in moments of desperation, when I wasn’t expecting great results).

Seriously, the game has a weapon for every situation, it’s your fault for using a weapon for the wrong situation (IE shooting a soldier across the dam). And for those saying that the soldiers shouldn’t be able to hit you from that far away, I do agree that their accuracy is irritatingly good, but look at it this way and it gets a lot easier to handle; they’re trained soldiers, and you’re a theoretical physicist in a fancy suit.

They aren’t that accurate if you actually use cover.

When modified, an M16 is able to fire .9mm rounds. I just had target practice with one this weekend that was utilizing that particular type of ammunition.

In any case, as it has been stated the original had you using an MP5 with a grenade attachment the entire game.

Does it look like it stores 9mm cartridges to you?

M16/M4 or MP5. Same ammo pool or even a different one. It doesn’t matter. The most important thing is that this ridiculous burst mode is removed or at least a switch method is introduced. Every other weapon I used (so far) seemed right.

I can’t believe that everybody is calling the M4A1 an M16, and you call yourselves fans.

Not with that magazine loadout, no. I merely stated that as a general statement in regards to the capacity of an M16 and/or M4A1 to be able to fire .9mm rounds. Doesn’t mean that the original intent was for that to take place regardless of the model used.

In any case, an M4A1 is essentially a poor man’s M16, and really, they practically are the same gun. With 80% of the parts being the same, the M4A1 is simply a shorter and lighter variant of the M16.

When the lower receiver is chambered to fire a different round. Yeah. They can.

But the skin change was just an esthetics thing, so who gives a shit if doesn’t look like it’s chambered for 9mm. I’d be happy with an M4A1 skin to be honest

I’ve made a rig, so if someone wanted to make a replacement with custom anims I could give it to ya.

I wouldnt mind seeing the m4a1 or m16 or any varriation added, as long as it doesn’t replace the mp5 or use 9mm, would work if the HECU forces had a chance to spawn with it… Though making it use its own caliber would lead to shortages if the only way to obtain it was by killing HECU marines, going back though the game and adding stashes every few encounters is always a (slightly lengthy but doable) option. Bonus points awarded if you take the 203 off the mp5, and leave it on the m16/m4a1/whatever.

Careful, I tried replying with an informative post but look what it got me, a bunch of bs. Just a heads up it might not be worth it in this case when dealing with this guy.

Most variants of the M16 including the carbines typically used the same lower receiver with a different upper receiver. There were quite a few M16-A1s out there in the 60s and 70s that had earlier M16 lower receivers pre fence than there were of the correct M16-A1s with the correct lower receiver partial fence.

Burst mode works. Problem is though as I seen someone else stated once before, I never noticed one of the HECU grunts reloading allowing me to get the drop on them or to allow me to move forward.

I’ve seen mp5-wielders reload. Shotgun-wielders, on the other hand, never reload (I’ve seen a rambo grunt shoot around 30 times in a row, in the garage with the tank where aliens keep spawning.)

Bring back the M16, you say?

I thought it was an M4…

I think there’s an M9 in there somewhere too…

Wow! Where did you get the M16/M4.
