Great Mod! But please BRING BACK THE M16!

Thanks guys for the best mod ever made. Will be a long time before this is surpassed. But the weapons are hideous. Clunky and poorly balanced. The M16 is a much nicer looking weapon than the mp5. Also AI are expert marksmen from 100 feet. These a just small nitpicks, that if fixed, will make this game a lot more fun to play. Thx

They used to have it so you could switch but that was cut. Give it a little while, I’m sure someone from the community (not necessarily this one) will make a replacement model.

i do have to say i prefered the HD weapons over the original ones, some option setting would be nice if they ever make the models.

as for balance they should just go back to the original way the weapons functioned and enemies fought, im sorry but the reworkings for them are terrible and unnecessary. the additions that were made were great and i love them! the crowbar actually is useful now against headcrabs but all the new combat mechanics for enemies they did made it useless now on barnacles, the dogs and zombies now. the m4 i also don’t get why they changed and nerfed, it was fine as it was.

they just changed so much that wasn’t broken and made it worse in some ways

The crowbar is broken, just has stupid stabbing motion.

Aside form the ridiculous speed the crowbar looks fine to me. It’d be pretty hard to swing one of those things like Freeman usually does.

I didn’t have any problem with the weapon balance. If anything, I liked the changes better than the original (especially how the revolver came before the shotgun). Although I do agree the HECU were a bit too difficult to deal with at times. Best way I found to kill them was to just snipe them from a distance or pop out of cover and kill one at a time as quickly as I could. Also, I’d say the crowbar should one-shot barnacles. Most of the time I just ended up shotgunning them or hitting them with the glock when they were on high ceilings.

Why would you ever want to crowbar a houndeye? Killing zombies with the crowbar was fine for me.

because in the original you could crowbar a houndeye but now with how fast it attacks its near impossible. as for zombies fighting them with the hit and run method no longer works and you WILL get hurt.

The M16 was introduced to Half-Life by Gearbox in their High-Def pack; the original Half-Life featured an mp5. In addition to being faithful to the original, this is a bit of a realism tweak; remember that the glock and the mp5 share their 9mm ammo pool. That wouldn’t make sense for the glock and the M16, as the former is 9mm and the latter 5.56mm.

The grenades need proper psychics. More like half life 2. It’s like throwing a ball of lead.

Is that praise or criticism? Because it is a ball of lead.

Personally, I like the buff to the houndeyes. They almost never hit me in the original (mostly because I never tried to melee them maybe considering they can only hurt you at close range :stuck_out_tongue: ).

Hit in run works for me on zombies, but it’s not the same as either half life, which I don’t have a problem with.

everyone quit bitching about trivial shit that can easily be fixed by content creators on gamebanana and a copy of notepad++

Your right, we are bitching, but its little things that could make the game a lot better.

Well, when a marine can shotgun me from the dam and i can empty an MP5 clip on his buddy and not kill him, that feels pretty broken to me.
The HECUs can stand a few hundred feet back and kill me in a few seconds while I struggle to hit them with anything. Ramboing them just gets me killed and none of the guns the player gets are really effective beyond 50ft or so.

If the MP5 just didnt spread so much or at least did more damage than the glock it would all be fine.

I think he is mostly referring to this thread’s title.

Ramboing should get you killed, and you’re forgetting the glock, revolver, crossbow, and tau cannon (also gluon gun, but that isn’t applicable).

MP5 is simply a bad choice against the HECU. I find using any of the four weapons I just mention above coupled with not standing out in the open all the time makes them a lot easier to deal with.

There was an M16 in HL1?!?!?!?!?!?!? I think I hurt myself here guys, I’ve been playing it since 1999. Where the hell do i get it and impulse 101 doesn’t give it.

Just made my way over the dam.
I just naded the crap out of the fence area and while stuff was exploding repositioned and pulled out my shotgun and sprinted into the building for health.

Also if anyone IS interested in modifying HECU health or weapon damage there are easily editible files under
E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\BMS\cfg\skill.cfg
or whatever your path is
I experimented a bit and i bumped 9mm ammo damage up from 6 to 10 and that seems to be a really happy setting. It’s not OP but it isnt a pea shooter either. Makes the glock a LITTLE rediculous but i hardly use it anyway

When you got Blue Shift it included the High Def pack which changed the guns.
The Baretta became a Glock, the shotgun became a SPAS12, the mp5 was an m4,

Try putting 9mm damage to 8. I tried 8 and the game seems to work well (on hard). Marines still take a bit to take down, but they dont take entire clips anymore. And it doesn’t overpower the glock. I found 10 damage per shot to make the gun an unstoppable killing machine

but yeah, someone in the community will make an m16 I am sure of it. People always end up doing that kind of thing. It will probably be on gamebanana within the week

Would you mind telling me the default value for the buckshot and the jump values as well? I was dicking around with it and overestimated my memory skills

Oh okay, I forgot about Gearbox’s texture pack. I think I used it once and all the guns felt way to bulky and went back to default.
