Great Games to Play

So I was searching for some great games to for me to get, so I looked around the internet, and decided to come up with this list, which acts as a checklist of sorts for me, as well as a recommendation list for others if they are interested. So the main point of this thread is if any of you have recommendations of some great games, or just feedback in general, such as your opinions on the ones on the list, any essential mods, etc. post them here. I might update it with any new ones I forgot.

I got quite a few of these from antisocialfatman (for those who haven’t heard of him, he’s a very good reviewer, he died earlier this month, but you should check him out nonetheless.) https://www.youtube.com/user/antisocialfatman#g/p

My games to eventually play-

System Shock 2
Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Escape from Butcher Bay - Dark Athena?
Deus Ex
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
World of Goo
Sins of a Solar Empire
Company of Heroes
Mirrors Edge
The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom
Baldurs Gate 1
Baldurs Gate 2
Planetscape Torment
Neverwinter Nights 1
Neverwinter Nights 2
Knights of the Old Republic 1
Knights of the Old Republic 2- maybe
F.E.A.R.
Goldeneye 07
Skyrim
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Batman Arkham City

oblivion and skyrim, obviously

Mount and Blade

And then install Mount and Musket and have 20000x more fun.

I´d get rid of System Shock 1, I´d add Age of Empires 2, Command & Conquer Tiberium Sun, and OBVIOUSLY, the whole Half Life Saga:

Half Life
Half Life: Opposing Force
Half Life: Blue Shift
Half Life 2
Half Life 2: Episode 1
Half Life 2: Episode 2

I also enjoyed Sweet Half Life, a single player mod in the eyes of another survivor of HL that does not disrupt the cannon yet it fits quite well with the original story.

Metal Gear Solid (PSX/PSN/PC)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (PS2/XBOX/PS3HDC/360HDC/PC)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (PS2/PS3HDC/360HDC/3DS [3D Remake])
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP/PS3HDC/360HDC)

(2,3, and Peace Walker can be had as part of the "Metal Gear Solid HD Collection)

Assassin’s Creed (It gets repetitive but it’s important for understanding the story of subsequent games)
Assassin’s Creed 2
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations

Xenogears
Metroid Prime
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
The Typing of the Dead

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas (1 and 2)

Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Grand Theft Auto 4

Burnout 3: Takedown
Burnout Revenge
Forza Motorsport 3
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge

Probably should add Rome:Total War

warhammer 40k

You should probably add the original Deus Ex as well

^^ All the DoW games, and Space Marine is quite fun.

Sorry if I list things you already have.

Mirror’s Edge
Starcraft 1, Brood War, and Starcraft 2
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
The Witcher, The Witcher 2
Diablo 1 and 2, including expansions
Battlefield 2, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3
GTA 3: Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA IV
Just Cause 2
Counter Strike, Counter Strike Source
Team Fortress 2
Fallout 3
Warcraft 3
World of Warcraft
Crysis
Uncharted trilogy
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit
Dirt 3
Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4
Terraria, Minecraft

So many other games to think of, maybe I’ll post more soon.

remove minecraft

AND WORLD OF WARCRAFT

WoW is a good game if you don’t suck, I’m guessing you did Mab.

Minecraft is also a really great game, but it depends on the person who plays it, some people can’t stand it, millions love it.

WoW = Glorified chatroom with monthly fee

WoW is legitmately fun in moderation to me. I can’t play it for hours/days on end like some people can without brushing with death out of boredom, but it’s not a bad game. And it’s an unbelievably well-designed game, it wouldn’t still be around after 7 years and completely destroy all of its competition if it wasn’t. People who say WoW is shit are people who have never tried it, typically, or just don’t like MMOs, because out of all of the MMOs I’ve played, WoW is the only good one, imo.

I’ve played since year one, on and off of course, but I used to do endgame raiding heavily, I PvP’d seriously, and I would just fuck around with my friends and do exploits and glitches all the time. It’s a great, fun game, but I am starting to get burned out, 7 years is a bit much for me, and Cata and Wotlk have been lackluster compared to TBC imo, but it’s still a great game.

I have some questions, do you guys recommend Assault on Dark Athena, or should I just get Escape from Butcher Bay. I know that they upgraded Butcher Bay with better lighting and crap, but how does Dark Athena stack up to the original?

Is there any game on that list that is bad and shouldn’t be included, because I intend to go on a “best of the best” videogame spree at some point.

Also Please don’t try just to list whatever game comes to your head, or your favorite game, list the games that you believe can be considered “great” of course its always going to be an opinion, but do give it some thought.

Quake
Doom
Daggerfall
Battlefield 1942/2/3
Unreal 1
Hexen/Hexen 2
Half-life
Terminator Future Shock
Descent/Descent 2
Dark Forces 1/Jedi Knight/Jedi Knight 2
Heretic 1/2
Call of Duty 1/2
FF7 with hardcore difficulty mod and graphics mods (PC version)
Blood
Duke Nukem 3D

In no particular order.

Seriously, PLAY ALL OF THOSE

How is that even a question? I’m sorry, but it’s retarded to ask “Should I look for a rare, outdated copy of a game, or buy the sequel to it that also includes the first game with better character models and lighting effects, along with the second game?”

Its more of a pricing thing, I don’t particularly care for graphics, and assault on dark athena costs around $20-30 more where I live, and I can’t get it on amazon or ebay from my location.
