To be fair the article didn’t seem really that biased or misinforming. The one thing that bothered me is that she didn’t do a very good job of making clear that these people were cheating/hacking (while cheats/hacks are a subset of mods and calling them mods/modding isn’t technically misleading, simply referring to them as modding doesn’t acknowledge that they’re not allowed/intended by the developer and generally involve a victim/s and perpetrator). I get she’s written some stupid stuff, but there’s no need to take a reasonable article and call it stupid just because other things she’s written are stupid.
Not to mention, the whole thing is creepily analogous to real-world rape. It has the same psychological trappings of helplessness and loss of control for the victim and power and control for the perpetrator that an actual rape would. In other cases of virtual actions, such as killing each other, there is a much larger gap in the psychological aspects of the virtual and the physical act. It’s enough to make me a little uncomfortable with the whole thing, though I wouldn’t say I’m offended or think it’s corrupting society.
