Grand Theft Auto V

New trailers coming on April 30, each focusing on each main character.

I’m not familiar enough with the GTA series to say, but does it seem so far like the multiple-protagonist system will work from a storytelling perspective? Most video games foster a strong connection between the protagonist and player, which seems like it wouldn’t be nearly as strong when you’re hopping between viewpoints at will.

On the other hand, I know CoD tells stories like that, and I understand that those games (or at least CoD4) had good stories.

CoD4 had a decent story. Then the narratives of the series went off the deep end. About the only other interesting story I can think of was Black Ops.

Which games in the series have you played?

Well, I haven’t actually played any of them, but I’m semi-familiar with GTA IV.

Well, son, what a great time then, Steam is running a Rockstar sale, so BUY THIS THING AND PLAY THE FUCK OUT OF THEM.

Maybe wait for the day when they’re cheaper if you want to spend a little less.

I’ll do that.

Hm.

Should I buy LA Noire?

LA Noire is kind of a mixed bag. The setting is amazingly detailed, but the case work and talking to witnesses is a bit annoying because of immersion breaking musical cues that tell you when you picked the “right” answer. The gunplay and the chases are good, but infrequent.

Oh, and the driving is atrocious. Just so you know.

I never got the hang of LA Noire’s face mechanics. I was almost always wrong when guessing even while looking at their faces, which are pretty ugly, searching for cues.

Yeah, sometimes they’re tough to figure out. Sometimes they’re incredibly obvious- a quick look away when someone’s telling a lie, for example.

Right, that sounds pretty bad.

I’m going to go get my wallet now.

Oh hey, don’t mind me, just gonna leave this thing here https://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/07/08/grand-theft-auto-v-gameplay-video-coming-tomorrow

I hope they do the informative style trailers with voice overs like the ones they did for RDR and Max Payne 3.

Yeah, that’s how you advertize games.

“Rockstar Games is always at the forefront of technological innovation and is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto V will feature the most advanced hooker killing technology ever made in a videogame.”

Aw fuck, of course, the release time of the trailer is exactly when I have to go back to work. Gonna be a looooong afternoon…

Looks good for a current gen game…hopefully it WILL look that good when we get our hands on it as well.

Now that is the GTA I’ve wanted to play for a long time. GTA4 was close, but there was too much “beeg american teetees”.
