Grand Theft Auto V

‘Fridge logic’… Thanks.

I’m sorry, but this is a debate that’s been going on for a year. Look at the date of these articles: https://wegotthiscovered.com/news/tommy-vercetti-grand-theft-auto-5/

What does being a fictional story have to do with anything? If this theory were true, then why didn’t we see any returning characters in GTA IV? Since when has Rockstar reused protagonists for any of their GTA games? Never. They always bring new characters and stories to go with them.

Keep in mind I am not saying its going to happen or is even likely. But I am saying it isn’t impossible or even that unlikely. It’d be interesting to see an 80s gangster and 90s gangster and some modern gangsters all working together and against each other in crime to see the chemistry between eras.

I’d say that Tommy would be closer to his mid fifties rather than sixties. You can still put up a fight at that age, plus it’s been around twenty years since the 80’s not thirty. Even if the timespan was at least 25 years between next year and whenever in the general 80’s Vice City took place, Tommy would still be able to do some damage.

And well, CJ would still be able to do what he needs to do in his forties, but the illustration makes the black dude look much younger than that.

And I also hate to burst your bubble on the supposed lack of crossover characters, however there is at least one character. You seemed to have forgotten about Lazlow Jones, the radio DJ who first appeared in GTAIII, and has been a recurring character since, including GTAIV (Integrity 2.0). He directly refers to his past exploits in Vice City, middle of nowhere in San Andreas, and Chatterbox in Liberty City, as well as a mention of Love Fist, therefore linking the GTAIII universe with the GTAIV era.

Wikipedia also says that the Manhunt and Bully games share the same universe. Who knew?

I’d heard something about Packie supposedly getting on a plane at the end of “Ballad of Gay Tony” with the diamonds, and the lights on the runway lighting up in a giant “V” shape. It would be interesting to see Packie in GTA V…

(DON’T SPOIL THE EXPANSIONS FOR ME. I have them both but never got to finish them because my fucking Xbox decided to be a bitch and stop reading that they are in fact on my hard drive, so I’ll have to redownload them, which takes a ton of bandwidth I’ll have to bum off my friends when school isn’t busy fucking me in the ass.)

Your arguement for character crossovers between the GTA III and GTA IV universe is the radio jock Lazlow Jones, a character that only appears on the radio and has been iconic to the series since GTA 3? Yeah, nice…

Yes. It’s an entirely valid point, is it not?

Plus, GTAIII was known for incorporating characters that the silent protagonist encounters throughout his adventure into the radio broadcasts. The Italian mobster with mother issues and the prostitute that you hook up with that gets shot at the end of the game because she wouldn’t shut her mouth, are a couple examples.

And yes, I made it a point to listen to Chatterbox and whatever else Lazlow ended up doing.

Lazlow is sort of an exception, in the fact that he was so iconic to the series in the GTA III era, a lot of people would have complained if they didn’t bring him back in IV. And the fact that he co-wrote most of the material for the radio stations since GTA 3. So I guess you’re right in that sense, but besides Lazlow there really isn’t any relation or continuity between the III and IV era games. I still stand on my view that none of the III era characters will return in V. Rockstar even confirmed that they’re not related universes here(4th question). So how would it make ANY sense for them to bring back characters from the III era. NONE. Some of the IV characters might return in V though, since it takes place in the same timeline and universe.

I’m pretty sure Rockstar has said that the GTA III trilogy and the GTA IV games are set on their own self-contained universes.

No comment on GTA V yet but it’s possible they’ll go through the same route.

I consider Lazlow to be a sort of extended easter egg character in GTAIV and his talk about the past games as just shit he’s pulling out of his ass in the context of the GTAIV backstory. Maybe he’ll come come back for V, I don’t know.

Right here fridge. The aren’t necessarily done with III’s characters but GTA IV is its own universe. They say nothing of V perhaps in V they return to III’s timeline.

@Maxx Skywalker You forget that in Vice City Tommy started out getting out of prison after doing 15 years.

Rockstar never states Tommy’s actual age, though the presumption is mid to late thirties. Even so, it’s still plausible for him to be just young enough to do some damage, despite having served time prior to the events of Vice City.

Though, another thing to consider is that he may not be a playable character, but may play more of a mentor roll to whoever becomes the main protagonist.

Hm. You really seem to be stuck on the idea that he’s going to appear either as a protagonist or NPC, even though we’ve given you evidence that the older GTA games don’t take place in the same universe as the newer ones. I’m not going to debate about it any more, believe whatever you want.

It’s not that I’m refusing to acknowledge your points about the differential between the GTA III and GTA IV eras, but it has yet to be confirmed which continuity GTA V will reside. I am only providing my own speculation on the matter. Whether it is correct, or not, is another issue entirely.

Well, I suppose that rules out my theories. Lol
