Grand Theft Auto 5

I would guess it was about the same size as GTA4’s Liberty City, maybe a bit bigger. It just felt so huge because you couldn’t travel nearly as fast.

But still, if the map has twice the square footage, that’s quite awesome. If this is true, I expect the Xbox version to come with a second disc and require an install. (if Microsoft weren’t fags about that)

I’d assume it will be. It wasn’t that huge in SA, so I’d expect it to be increased to Liberty City size. It not like they’re copy-pasting SA’s Los Santos with a graphical update.

Not that that would be bad. . .

It is much, much bigger. After googling the subject, people are saying that RDR’s map is about three times larger than San Andreas, and I believe I read elsewhere that GTA 5’s map is twice the size of RDR’s. If that is indeed the case… well, I hope I won’t spend most missions driving from one end of the city to the other lol

I don’t think anyone really knows the proportion of the two maps. Rockstar has been vague at best so far. Bottom line is its going to be big, and we’ll have to wait on exactly how big.

I wonder how big it can actually get before they have to start cutting features so it will all freaking fit on one damned disk.

Unless, of course, Rockstar were to include a blu-ray drive with each copy of the game that is required to play the game.

i’ve been doing some reading and checking out video analysis and noticed that nobody’s pointed out the two recurring character throughout the trailer. The older gentleman seen close up from behind looks to be someone important in the game’s story; quite possibly even our antihero. The narration throughout matches his face, age and body build. He also mentions having kids and wanting to start over, clean. This would back up his age. He’s got an older southern, midwestern vibe to his voice. it wouldn’t surprise me if R* threw in an older PC.

On the other hand, he could be a mission provider or connection in the game. He also resembles Tommy Vercetti a bit. But GTA4’s trailers were narrated with Niko’s voice, so my money’s on uncle moneybags here.

Seen at :
0:40 close up from behind
0:45-0:48 wearing a mask
0:49-0:50 driving a blue car
and possibly at 0:57, but the video’s not HD

There’s also an Hispanic fellow shown multiple times. i’ve read that some people think the narrator sounds Mexican or Spanish but i’m not buying it. Unlike moneybags, he’s seen in a white shirt in every scene, similar to Niko’s non-clothes-changing self. Niko’s outfit never changes for trailers or in DLC cutscenes in an effort to keep consistency between stories. This could imply that HE could be our player character.

Seen at :
0:23-0:27 in a red car (soft top down)
1:05 for a split second in the same red car (soft top up)
1:06-1:08 running on foot from the authorities
and i’m currently debating whether he’s on the left at 0:46

Another thought that occurred to me is why we should be tied to ONE character per game. R* mentioned a loooooong time ago that they intentionally wanted the stories of Niko, Johnny and Luis to take place simultaneously with the player being able to switch between them throughout the game.

Rumors are also going around regarding the game’s ending, where the main protagonist dies and you, the player, are left with his younger brother or son to play as. if the story is done right and constructed well, players could potentially pick and chose between multiple characters during the game. it would also add a little more variety. it’s completely doable and i would LOVE that kind of choice.

They could also be planning ahead like they did with GTA4, where they knew before the game came out who they wanted to have you play as in the side stories and where they intersect.

I personally wouldn’t mind if they went a bit Pulp Fiction and had us play as different people throughout the game in near but not exact chronological order to tell a larger story.

Remember the old GTA? Where you got to choose two different character?

Huh? You could choose 8 in gta1 and 1 in gta2

wow, how fucking underwhelming was that…

Well, it was more of a long teaser than a proper trailer. I’m sure better stuff is incoming.

Besides, Rockstar doesn’t need to do big blockbuster trailers by this point. Everyone knows how big GTA is and what’s it all about, so no need to go all bonkers right in the first reveal trailer.

:fffuuu: Wellllllll…how about not fucking at all? :stuck_out_tongue: Lol, I disagree…thought it was pretty damn NOT underwhelming IMO.

It established the world, and in GTA the world is everything. So no, it wasn’t underwhelming, it was perfect at what it needed to do.

Without coming out and saying it out loud, the teaser answered almost every question the fans have been asking. The two biggest being, “Where will GTA5 take place?”, and, “Will it be as large as San Andreas?”. Also, the teaser shows car modification (the convertible), hints towards character fitness (the gym), the open explorable wilderness (the mountains) as well as a few other subtle nods.

i’d say it conveyed its message rather well.

The main two questions I still have are A] When will we get to play it and B] What systems will it come out on and when (simultaneous PC/console release? PS Vita version?)

I predict with my psychic abilities that the PC version will come a couple of months later as a crappy port

months later?

ha

Well GTA IV came 8 months later on PC

I would have described that as ‘almost a year’ instead of ‘months’ :stuck_out_tongue:

Face it R* have an awful history at this kinda thing. It took San Andreas 8 months too (not including the near 4 years to get it on steam, arguably a very easy task), LA noire has taken half a eyar and Red Dead isn’t coming at all :frowning:
