You’d think with all the money they make (GTA IV sold 22 million!) making a decent PC port shouldn’t be a problem.
I remember one excuse from them was “making PC games is hard cause there’s so many different configurations bla bla”
I don’t see how making a PC version can be more difficult than cramming the game in to a console, especially PS3 with it’s wonky architecture.
I mean games are built on the PC in the first place aren’t they? >.<
what they mean with that is the problem of some differences in effect appearance with different video cards, some effects need some “hacks” in order to make them work properly.
That’s just one example.
They also need to code a graphicsoptions menu, which isn’t easy sometimes if it wasn’t intended to exist in the first place.
It’s simple. The big cash comes from the console crowd, so that’s where they focus their efforts on. After they make a few billions from selling the game on consoles, it is then that they start working on the PC port.
However, we still don’t have any concrete details about GTA V, so the situation may be different this time around, but it’s unlikely they’ll change the tradition.
I would call that more of a “Finally!” moment. Being able to put the top up or down on the fly, instead of going to a mod garage or look for the same car with a different roof configuration.
i’m hoping that since L.A.Noire’s traffic was more forgiving, R* might let us drive legitimately and follow traffic laws. Since GTA3, i’ve wanted the ability to use my blinkers. NPC cars do it!! There’s a mod for GTA4 PC that revamps the traffic laws in game and allows you blinker control. it works rather well and adds a lot more realism to the game. in L.A.Noire, the only traffic problem i ever had to deal with was turning cross-traffic cutting me off in the intersection. Straight traffic has always had the right-of-way, right? The laws didn’t change some time in the 1960’s, did it? Also the only way to keep NPC traffic for rear-ending your car was to stop cars from spawning immediately behind you and scripting them to change lanes if indeed you were in front.
Stop at any red light in L.A.Noire; i dare you. You will never have a car directly behind you…and if there is, its front bumper is already shoved half way up your tailpipe.
I’ve done it before it adds something to the game I like the idea of cops trying to pull you over if you don’t. The reason they don’t add it is because GTA devs likes the timed driving mission structure so it wouldn’t work.
Obeying traffic laws is frustrating enough irl. I don’t want that in my favorite stress relief, Grand Theft Auto. Plus, how do you propose you accelerate? Most keyboards aren’t pressure sensitive, so “accelerating” will always be the equivalent of slamming your foot on the gas (why do you think it works so well in racing games?)
Think about this though : Have you ever thought it kind of strange that you could hop the sidewalk, cut through a pile of boxes, smash a hotdog stand and plop back onto the road into wrong-way traffic…right in front a cop car…and all they do is “WHOOP” their sirens once like a warning?
So long as you don’t hit any pedestrians, it’s all good!
i thought that was kind of goofy and maybe even a little immersion breaking. imagine the added challenge the game would pose if the police were less forgiving of traffic violations. i think it’d be more fun and it’d teach a lesson in patience if you had to stop at red lights. But there’s nothing stopping you from darting into traffic like a badass if there are no cops around! Go ahead, take that chance!

EDiT :
it’s going to be interesting to see how L.A.Noire pulls off keyboard controls then. i ALWAYS keep to the traffic laws unless i have the sirens going.
I wouldn’t want it to get too crazy with that. I remember when I first played Mafia II and thought “What the hell?” when a cop started chasing me for speeding.
Grand Theft Auto is far from realistic enough to make me wonder why the cops don’t stop me for speeding lol. It’s not supposed to be realistic, and something like the addition of traffic rules could really ruin the experience for me.
It seems you’ve never played Mafia I. The cops were far more Nazi-like in that one. I’ve done 45-53 mph in Mafia II and the cops leave me alone, but I hit 41 in Mafia, and TICKET, MOTHERFUCKER.
