Gordon's Feet

SMOD.

Edit: Ninja’d.

What? I’ll just assume you didn’t get I was trying to make a joke.

SMOD (or at least the one I have, Redux 6) is perhaps the BEST Half-Life 2 mod I’ve ever played.

The normal Half-Life 2 is a cakewalk compared to it.

Or looking up. It’s amazing how high Gordon can lift his leg.

There are mods of SMOD. Pure SMOD is little more then a handfull of shitty weapons and features, comedically excessive gore, and Lua. What makes it even funnier is that most of the mods of it are for making Half-Life 2 “realistic.”

Honestly, I didn’t mind any of that. And if you’re referring to the weapons such as the wand and PSP, I didn’t see them once when I played. Mainly because all of those are only accessible through cheating. Other than that, I think the weapon additions and added challenge are an excellent change from the original Half-Life 2. I’d take the SMOD over it anyday.

As for the ‘comedically excessive gore,’ it can be turned off if the player so desires, which is what I did, so…

But I see you’re referring to SMOD itself and not Redux or Tactical, so I guess I can agree with you to some extent. However, I still love Redux 6.

What “added challenge” do you keep going on about. I don’t see any real difference other then a few bad HL1 monsters placed on the maps.

Haven’t tried Redux, but Tactical was almost dumber then the origional SMOD.

Edit: and the screenshots I just saw of Redux 6 look like more of the same stupid shit. More weapons, stupid effects, and third person.

To be fair, if they had wanted you to imagine yourself as Gordon, they wouldn’t have ever made a character model or even done any concept art of him, because that would be going against your idea of “Oh it has to feel like YOU’RE the main character”. I play Left 4 Dead and Crysis and they have legs and hell it makes me feel more like I AM the character. The point is, people who whine that " it’s going against the idea of putting the player in the game" are just hardcore fans who seem to be unable to take off their nostalgia glasses and see that sometimes a little change can be a goodthing. Hell if the Half-Life series hadn’t changed we’d still have the adventures of Gordon Freeman, running around Black Mesa, pissed because the elevators are broke and theres no coffee left :stuck_out_tongue: Just because someone makes an idea, doesn’t mean you have to shoot it down straight away. Also I’d like to add that BMS has a character model for Gordon in the trailer, so if thats not placing you out of the character’s shoes I don’t know what is.

I wonder what would have become of Half-Life 2 if the devs had discussed every idea with the fan community first:

“Hey, how about having a clever female npc accompany the player throughout vital parts of the game?”

Community: “Bah! That’s not Half-Life anymore! Half-Life is all about Gordon Freeman fighting all on his own!”

“Okay, then screw the idea - seems to have been shitty anyway.”

I could give many other examples, but I think you know what I am saying.

I rather like to give new ideas a chance. Like having legs and arms and matching animations in the game. In Mirror’s Edge I felt a lot more immersed into the action by seing the limbs of my alter ego in-game.

What are you talking about? You don’t see Gordon in the Trailer.

I think he is referring to Gordons hands, like when he is holding a gun :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought as much but when I hear “character model” I usually picture the full body.

-NPCs (including Grigori, Alyx, etc) have the same HP at Gordon, and don’t regenerate, meaning there’s an added emphasis on protecting them.

-Most of the sequences where you face a gunship now have about 2 or 3 of them attacking you at once, and they have a different attack sequence meaning you have to use a bit more thinking to take them down.

-Enemies can kill you instantly with a headshot, which generally gives a reason to not run headlong into a firefight, and to use cover.

-Added enemies include houndeyes, the female Combine assassin (who I will admit is poorly animated), invisible combine soldiers, city scanners equipped with machine guns, and stalkers that will attack the player. (A bullsquid and a new type of zombie are being added in Redux 7)

-the ‘bullet time’ effect, as stupid as you may think it is, can actually be extremely useful when the situation warrants its use.

Even if you don’t like it, I’d say give Redux 6 a shot before passing judgment on it based on screenshots and a different variation of the mod

Also, I downloaded Tactical, and I’ll admit it didn’t hold my attention as much as Redux did, but it’s from what I saw, it isn’t as bad as you’re making it out to be.

But I still don’t see how the added weapons are stupid (except the wand and PSP, which again, I never saw whilst playing)

can anyone help me with installing SMOD?

If it’s a folder, all you need to do is drag the whole thing into your sourcemods
folder(by default: c/program files/steam/steamapps/sourcemods) , then restart steam and it should show up.

Well the guy standing behind Barney in the clip has a remarkable resemblence to Gordon, but go ahead and shoot me for using my eyes. Plus if that is a regular scientist, it really does look a lot like Gordon, would be kind of confusing going around Black Mesa and seeing yourself lol

just look down at your old feet and pretend your nails arnt painted

Me too.

I agree. That does sound stupid.

with the exception of the slo-mo and some of the npc’s, I’m pretty sure pure SMOD doesn’t have any of those things.

I think that unless you have a limited inventory size, adding tons of new guns to a game is pointless. Either the weapons will be balanced and most of them will be basically interchangeable in any given scenario, or they’ll be unbalanced and there won’t be any real reason to use the weaker guns.

Fair enough.

Dias, the next time you quote me I would advise you to read more carefully.

was what I wrote.

is what you deliberately added to suggest that this was what I meant. Which obviously was not the case. I don’t mind being ridiculed by some dumb motherfuckers I have never met just for their personal fun, as long as they don’t (need to?) put words “in my mouth” in order to do so. Be a little more creative next time, 'kay? :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re not the first person to make that mistake. Which, no offence, makes me worry for the fate of the human race, as it’s ridiculous.
