Gordon's Feet

You see Gordon’s legs when you are playing as Adrian Shephard in HL:Oppsing force. So yes, he has legs.

For some reason, almost every FPS out there does not allow you to see your legs, CoD4 included. Perhaps it was very complex to do and too much work because you look up all the time, but still…

Should be included!`

Maybe they’ll include First-Person legs when they finally get it right. Every single game the legs are a part of the view model, and always seem to glide along the ground while turning. Even in Mirrors Edge, where looking down at your feet was pretty important, you could stop on a ledge with both of your feet floating off the end, and still not be falling. Do it right, or not at all. In this case, not at all.

Legs in first-person mode is usually just because there is a camera located on the dick of the third-person model.

the legs ar good idea but for this time it will have no use cos there were no legs before and where they came form now? maybe it will be in HL3?

He never had legs. Anyways, why would you be looking at your ‘legs’?

Edit: Also, it would look pretty much retarded if you’re falling and look down.

Actually, if you go into third-person in HL1, not HL: S (type thirdperson in the console), you can see a full model of Gordon. The reason you never see his feet is that when you look down, his model actually tilts forward. :freeman:'d

You know what’ll be funny? When Episode 3 comes out, and you still won’t see your feet even though they put it in Left 4 Dead, and could probably do it really easily. But they won’t. A number of you will complain, and I’ll just laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

The reason we don’t see gordon’s feet is because the HEV suit doesnt cover them …

When Gordon first went into a vat of radioactive sludge, they turned gangrenous and fell off. He now moves on stumps.

Problem solved. :stuck_out_tongue:

Opposing force is not canon.
There is no use for having legs visible. Gordon will not have legs.

/thread.

Those damned foot fetishists.

Seriously though, I can’t remember any specific examples, but I know there are some (probably particularly on Xen), of platforming where having legs impeding your view of where you need to drop down to would be made infinitely more frustrating.

Oh right, the Island on Xen with the Manta Ships passing over it. You start incredibly high up on an orbiting island, where you have to get down by dropping to other orbiting islands.

The suck factor would definitely be increased by legs in view.

This thread is about EP3, not HL1, try to stay on topic amigo

I was merely citing an example how the typical Half-Life platforming would be badly affected by having legs impeding the view.

On that note, given the arctic setting, and what we’ve seen of the concept art for Episode 3, I think the platforming will be even more harsh than what we’ve seen so far, and thus the point stands.

Cheers.

Ep3 concept art? Sweet, I should check that out. Amigo!

Valve seemed to learn from their Xen mistake, AFAIK there were no overly intense jumping puzzles in any of the HL2 episodes so far. I doubt they will bring that back for ep3, considering how much players hated it.

I actually prefer seeing feet during jumping puzzles, and especially sections of the game where the player is standing on a narrow surface. Looking down and not having any reference for where you are actually standing makes it hard to tell how far you are from falling off.

I wasn’t really referring to the jumping platforming, so much as the dropping down platforming where you had to be ridiculously careful about not missing the mark (hence citing the example from H-L1).

Considering the environment of Episode 3, I can see this type of platforming being the norm.

About my personal not liking of seeing the feet, I’m going from what I know, which is Halo’s 2 and 3 which really blocked way too much in the way of straight down view.

I suppose if done right it could work.

why bother? , the game is fine how it is

Yeah so dont you think Gordon likes his??

I agree with you on some level… but for me that part was really easy, im really good at platforming so the legs as an interference would make it more challanging and fun… just my opinion, oh and another thing, the more i think about it, the more i realise how stupid this is… who cares of gordon has legs… instead of making legs, make a better level or spend that money/time on the game

Okay, so you want GORDON FREEMAN to have legs?

Here’s the deal.

GORDON FREEMAN HAS LEGS, IT’S JUST NOBODY CAN SEE THEM

Edit: Now that i think about it… if nobody can see them, how can i say he has them?

If this turns into an existentialist debate, I will definitely find myself confounded.

Well valve would be using an updated version of l4d source so in my opinion it’s valves decision on whether or not to recode what the legs look like or take them completely off. In my opinion though I would like to see legs as long as they can add arms for ladders and they are animated really well none of that fallout 3 crap.

i really dont care anymore its just feet and legs, who really cares i mean they would be pretty cool but not having them really wont change your gameplay all that much and although it may not take them that long to do i would rather them make something else rather than legs, maby upgraded bullet graphics or something idk
