Good Anime

+1

Yes, quite.

Ah, got it. You believe that all anime fans are socially awkward losers based on your anecdotal evidence based upon a biased sample. Congrats. You’re an idiot. I’m so proud of you.

ffs lad, you’re so old and boring. Meh

I tried to take your comment seriously, but you like anime so your point is moot.

Chill out for fuck’s sake. This is basically “I don’t like your hobby so I’m gonna insult you”.

That said, 90% of all anime is shit.

Do I? Nah. But I’m not going to insult all the fans based upon my small sampling of them. It’s stupidity.

Bored now. Until next time anime fans, i bid adieu.

Lol insults and generalizations is all they can come up with.

a bit rich + poor attempt

I absolutely love the artform known as anime. I adore its amazingly detailed facial expressions, they often capture the emotion better than any actual actor. I adore how the creators have an eye for realistic animations, motion capturing doesn’t even come close to the life-like animations of anime. I adore how the creators put their hard and soul into the art, unlike the factory work that is Disney or Dreamworks. I adore how the storytelling makes Tolkien look like a blabbering fool.

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to watch any Anime at all. But if anyone has any recommendations of an anime that is similiar to 5cm Per Second I’d appreciate it. Looking for strictly movies right now, no time to watch a full series.

Cool story bro. So I guess I’m a sad lonely loser that has never left his house. Well with the exception of my deployments, plenty of people I would call my brother and gladly put my neck on the line for them. With your logic, anyone who plays video games is a fat lonely, socially awkward 10-18yr old.

But yeah, sounds legit.

Another random usual suspect newfag feeling the need to how his sorry ass to the public and come up with an excuse. Classic.
Who are you though?

Eh it’s not bad. The “SERVing MY COUNTRY” thing made me really facepalm/lol.

I see what you did there.

I was simply shooting down the generalization that he made and wasn’t trying to come across as if I was boasting about anything.

See. You make yet another excuse.

I honestly don’t care what it is. If it’s good, I watch it. If it just so happens to be made in Japan, fuck it, I hold no preconceived notions about it.

Will I say that a large swath of anime has completely contrived plots centering around one to a billion dimensional characters with an emphasis on breaking physics and common sense? Yes.

But will I also admit that some animes are truly artful masterpieces, eliciting emotion and character attachment? Yes. These are usually the one’s that break physics and common sense the least. You don’t see weird humor all the time, they don’t drop sweat drops or chibi faces, and the plot is actually worthwhile.

For example, Death Note, which gave the power of death to a god-complex kid who was trying to mold the world into a better place. Or Full Metal Alchemist, where two alchemists use science and theorems to try and beat their warmongering country into completing the philosopher’s stone, so that they can keep it from using it as a weapon and also to try and right a wrong they perpetrated, all the while actually SERVING in said country’s military in order to gain research capabilities.

And if you want to see some classic animes, look for the serious movies. More effort is placed in the art and animation, and the more serious ones like Jin-Roh and Steam Boy are fucking masterpieces.

I’m not an anime fag, I just enjoy good entertainment, and I’ll take it from anywhere it may come from.

Frankly, who gives a fuck (not directed at any post in particular)? People like ODB and Paddy are only on this forum to stir up shit. Whether or not they like anime is a moot point. I’m sure they don’t, but that’s not relevant. Once again, people like them are always just looking to stir up shit. It’s best for everybody (except them) if you don’t take it seriously.

Yeah I’m reading the manga now, and I like it. But I think manga just can’t compare to anime, it loses a lot of the character and life when it’s in text form (IMO). Or, since the manga almost always comes first, it’d be better to say that I think that turning a manga into an anime adds life and character to the series.

I’m not going to join the silly argument about the quality of anime or that of the people who watch it (simply because it’s so full of shit-stirrers), but what I will say is this:
I think the main thing that draws me to anime is it’s idealism. It seems like each anime, or at least the style of anime I watch, is very idealistic in it’s own way. Especially the characters. Sometimes it’s nice to watch this world of ideals. And I think the very fact that it’s animated gives it freedom to be more creative and idealistic. It’s like once you see a live action character, you apply all the stale limits of reality to him and any escape from that reality, short from absolutely masterfully and impeccably done, is rejected as silly and unrealistic. In animation, it’s so much easier to escape those limits and take the characters and worlds wherever the writers’ imagination wants to go. Animation is a workaround to prevent the viewer from rejecting fantasy of a reality or of a character.
I’m not emotionally moved easily. I’m not very emotional at all. But the thing that most often moves me is anime. Because of the ideals, or because of the character attachment, or because of a host of other reasons, anime (or at least good ones, from my perspective) always seem to be a much more emotional experience than any other form of media. Donnie Darko would probably be the only movie/book/tv series/painting/etc. that I’ve found more moving than Code Geass, my favorite anime.

See, I see that all the time. That anime is more lively or whatever than manga. I really don’t understand it. I’ve pretty much completely dropped watching anime because from my experience most anime can’t compare to the manga. There are so many good manga that are never adapted into anime for whatever reason and when a manga is adapted usually a lot is cut out, if it’s a longer running series, like One Piece, the art and animation usually lapses and a shit load of filler is added because the stories are told quicker in the anime than the manga can stay ahead of, or the anime cuts off in the middle of the story, like with His and Her Circumstances.

It’s like adapting a movie from a book, it a lot of the time doesn’t work. There are plenty of anime that weren’t adapted from a manga, such as Cowboy Bebop, just because they didn’t have to worry about catching up to the manga and could make all the decisions usually that manga has to make.

I don’t know why I’m typing all this out, it just kind of bugs me when people refuse to read manga in spite of the anime being objectively inferior. I’m not saying that all anime is like this, I’m sure there are many anime adaptations that outclass the manga, though I can’t think of any off the top of my head. And this really isn’t aimed at anyone in particular.

So, yeah, sorry for this wall of text :stuck_out_tongue: .
