Good Anime

I agree with you, in terms of quality of storytelling and effort, I think most often manga FAR surpasses most anime. But nonetheless, I just can’t find myself attached and immersed in static illustrations without physical voices (that’s not to say I don’t like books in general, but that’s a separate matter).

Use your imagination for the voices :stuck_out_tongue: . I remember when I watched the anime of Rurouni Kenshin religiously and then stopped watching it, might have went off the air, I don’t know. I read the manga for about a year and then watched it again and Kenshin’s accent threw me off a lot. I can understand what you’re saying, but really cannot relate to your problem  .

Indeed.

I enjoy anime and I not gonna give a fuck to peoples dislike them and insult them.

You enjoy anime? Explains alot.

Paddy, give it a fucking rest already. I’m pretty sure you like something that a lot of people don’t like too. That’s the way to world works.

From what I gathered:
He likes motorsports; Holy shit :fffuuu:
He likes drinking; What the fuck man
He likes girls; Ewww fucking ewww

I watch Studio Ghibli films, bebop, and gurren lagann. That’s about it. I guess you could say I like anime, but I don’t really have an active interest; I’m not pursuing current shows.

Just finished Kare Kano, the manga version of His and Her Circumstances. It’s an incredible story. The anime got cut short before the story really reached it’s peak. I wish the anime had covered the whole thing, then I think it’d even top Code Geass in my personal list of favorites.

Have you seen Ghost in the shell: Stand Alone Complex.

I also agree with ya on full metal. I’ve never seen shit get sooooooo real so fast in an anime (If you’ve watched all of it you know wut I’m talkin about, I think).

But if your gonna call anime shit; then i’m gonna have to say.
This shit go hard yo.

I’m with both of you on this one. I used to watch a lot of anime, but then I realized that it’s almost exclusively horribly paced, cheaply produced garbage with studio-introduced forced humor and gags that detract from the storyline present in the manga.

I mean, I read Bleach every week. I watched the anime before I read the manga, and looking back on it, it’s so shit. It gets filled with stupid humor and inane filler material, not to mention the really cheap animation and mediocre voice acting, which ruin what’s otherwise a pretty decent storyline set in a really engrossing universe.

Oh hey, you should come to the OP forum I go to and post in the Bleach/Naruto thread :ninja: …

I’m not that into manga.

Just finished Full Metal Alchemist. Was worth watching, but not really that good, it’s popularity surprises me. The characters really felt boring to me. I might try the version that follows the manga story line more closely as I’ve heard that one is better.

Also, some anime doesn’t have an awful production. Look at Code Geass. I’ve never read it’s manga, and I’m not even sure it is based off a manga, but regardless, the series is of stunning quality. Same with Death Note it terms of production quality. You just have to steer clear of the loads of shit anime, much of which is still somehow popular. Admittedly, that’s a big task.

I watched the first episode of Full Metal Alchemist and didn’t really find it all that interesting and haven’t watched any of the rest so I agree with you.

Death Note’s manga is so much better. The anime might not be of poor quality by itself but it is when compared to its manga. Also while I watched the dub, I have heard the Japanese voices and Misa’s (I think that’s her name, the blonde goth girl) voice is absolutely horrendous. Also the ending to the anime sucked balls. I did love the opening and closing songs though, so I’ll give it that.

Oh, for sure; Death Note was really well done, and FLCL is another example of an anime with great production value; that series is gorgeous. It just seems like a lot of the really popular ongoing manga get really crappy anime adaptations.

The reason for that is because, like I said earlier, anime not adapted from manga have more freedom and don’t need filler. FLCL was not adapted from a manga and was only 6 episodes long, so of course it’s going to have a higher budget per episode than a multi-hundred chapter manga adaptation where the manga was still running. Death Not was fairly short as well.

I’m really interested in the new Berserk anime that’s coming out soon that, despite the manga being hundreds of chapters, the this new adaptation is going to have a really high production value and will be more faithful.

FLCL: the only Gainax anime I’ve liked all the way through.

Overrated studio is overrated.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It’s a slightly unconventional Mahō Shōjo anime with an original story as well as a manga adaptation and spinoffs. But a word of warning: Don’t watch it unless you’re prepared to get attached to characters, observe much food being ingested, occasionally see the air thick with bullets/explosions, and possibly cry when it’s over.

There’s also an English dub being made by Aniplex USA, but sadly it’s reportedly of average English dub quality.

Even if you don’t regularly watch the Mahō Shōjo genre (I don’t, but then again, I don’t really get a chance to watch any new anime regularly) I would recommend you give it a try.
