Good Anime

Thanks :stuck_out_tongue: . Well as I’ve said, I love Code Geass and Highschool of the Dead. Full Metal Panic! is also one I really like. I looked into One Piece but it didn’t strike my fancy. Not sure how to describe those animes’ style, but it’s that kind I’m most interested in.

Edit: I absolutely hate fighting oriented animes. IE, I gotta train and be the bestest ever. And I don’t like stuff like the bizarrely common future cowboy style.
Edit2: Started Great Teacher Onizuka. Just on the first episode, but its very good so far. The main character is an intensely likeable creeper/idiot. Characters like that are always fun.

detective conan

Guilty Crown.

This thread’s title is a lie

You know Final Fantasy 7’s characters were inspired by anime, right?

Just saying.

hurrr ‘good anime’, you know we already have a ‘you laugh you lose’ thread.

You mean Case Closed?

I like anime. I do not like FF. Your argument is invalid.

I just think it’s funny how he hates anime, yet has an avatar heavily influenced by anime.

For me, anime is a hit or a miss. Usually a miss, but there are a few I’ve enjoyed quite a bit. It bugs me that many of them are mediocre for the first half, but then the second half is incredibly awesome. Gurren Lagaan is the opposite though, IMO. Beginning was awesome, then they glossed over 7 years and it blew hard.

I’ll not get into a big discussion on anime, though, I’ll end up making an ass out of myself for one, and another, my tastes are vastly different than many people here. Both make it not worth the effort.

Not really. Stop tryna be a hipster

The men look like girls and everyone carries a sword the size of a car, isn’t that the definition of anime?

I don’t like anime. I don’t generalize, there are some shows I like which happen to be anime but the anime portion has nothing to do with it.

People who like / dislike anime are discriminatory because all anime denotes is that it is animation of Japanese origin.

QFT.

I liked FF7 because the characters were well developed, and the plot was interesting (fuck off). While some of it was corny and genericly written, it was for the most part solid, and it was not nearly as bad as 90% of most anime’s poorly written dialogue and heavy use of generic plot devices. Yeah I liked some of the designs, but you can clearly tell there is way more western influence in the PSX-era FFs then most “Animes”

Maybe I should have added “in most cases”

In fact, this thread’s title is 2 lies, because Anime is simply the Japanese word for animation - There’s no such thing as Anime because they are just cartoons - Our use is just a false label for those Japanese cartoons.

Not even close, champ.

While that does kind of make sense, there’s such a wide range of anime it’s really difficult to say you hate the entire thing even if you have seen a lot. Take video games for example. If people say “I hate video games because I’ve played a lot and haven’t liked any of them” people really can’t be expected to take that seriously, at least that’s how I find it. They’ll just keep recommending them different types of video games to try and help them find something they like. I don’t know which genres (or specific shows) you’ve seen though so it’s also difficult to say anything concrete.

It sounded like that when you said “I dislike anime” and “I just don’t enjoy it at all” :stuck_out_tongue: .

Fair enough. I’ll stop before I get compared to bronies some more.

Cobra, Air Master, Trigun, Lupin III, and ummmm… Pat Labor.

Wow, a difference of opinion settled reasonably and amicably. I’m impressed

OT: Hmm, what have I watched since my last post here? Let’s see, the Haruhi and Trigun movies (Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and Badlands Rumble, respectively) were both very good if you liked the series they were based on.

Cromartie High School is a strange but interesting comedy…a lot of the humor feels almost British. I love it though.

Actually, to be honest, I kinda think saying “I hate anime” is slightly fair. Anime is VERY heavily varied, but, by definition, it has the common thread of Japanese culture. So, just like I say I hate British Comedy, it can have a fair amount of truth to it. Of course I’m sure there’s British Comedy that’d I’d absolutely love, but I’m generalizing. Generalizing is a necessary part of communication. Who wants to say “I hate approximately 93.5% of anime”? Let us have our generalizations and let them have their generalizations. Now of course, with the case of anime, a lot of people generalize against it based on silly prejudice (“What, anime? I stopped watching Dragon Ball Z when I was 12”), so it’s just up to those people to try enough anime to find what they like, or lose out because of their prejudice. And then there’s the people that just legitimately don’t like the vast majority of anime. Lets let them be in the hope that they’ll let us be, rather than try to sort out those who have silly prejudices from those the just plain don’t like the vast majority of anime.

TL  R: I’m already going to create (I mean join) a shitstorm and I just got back. :[

Anyway. Great Teacher Onizuka. FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Really really good series. It has an incredible amount of depth to it believe it or not. The characters build and reveal themselves throughout the series. The ending was great. I heavily recommend it.

anime is fucking GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY also holy fuck everyone was so happy when you were gone garth go the fuck away again
