Good Anime

I should clarify. I never said discriminatory was bad its just what it is. Honestly I’m fine if you discriminate against anime because its true their art is going to be reflective of their culture and this means a lot of people won’t like it. Why risk wasting your time on something that you might not like at all when you have some standard to discriminate it by? I personally try not to be discriminatory and although impossible anime is one subject I manage not to be discriminatory on.

The statement was an attempt to make people realize how much they where generalizing.

Agreed.

@fancy

Anybody got any suggestions for a relatively ordinary anime? Been trying out a lot of recommendations, but they’ve all been bizarre stuff like “Purgatory is a highschool” and stuff. At the moment I’m in the mood for something a little easier to stomach.

Also, I’m happy to see my ignore list is still intact.

Depends on what you mean by ordinary. I’ve noticed that more adult, realistic series hardly ever get anime made for them. Monster is pretty good, and is what I would consider ordinary, and it has an anime. “Ordinary” or “realistic” usually doesn’t translate over to anime and typically stays in manga form. I might be able to say more if you elaborate on what you mean by ordinary though.

I have a DVD boxset of the “First Move” of “Last Exile” in my desk. It came with the OST which made me very happy, but I really need to get around to watching it. The first episode was pretty impressive if I remember rightly…

@Kairouseki I actually really didn’t like Monster. I felt it dragged on and on and on and on and honestly, I really didn’t find myself holding any interest in the characters. By ordinary, I guess I probably should have elaborated. Something along the lines of a lot more focus on like highschool life or other “ordinary” life. And without massive in-your-face supernatural spiritual philosophical stuff. Something along the lines of Full Metal Panic! I’ve found a series called CLANNAD, just in the fist episode, but it seems to be what I am looking for.

Well I can’t help you as I don’t watch anime for a high school simulation :stuck_out_tongue: .

Not really what I was trying to say, but whatever. XD

Well, Azumanga Daioh is one of the best high school slice-of-life/comedies, if you haven’t watched it yet. Lucky Star seems to be a bit polarizing for people, but I like it. I think some people have already been burned out on otaku-type characters and jokes, which it does have quite a bit of. His and Her Circumstances is a high school show that focuses mainly on the relationship between the two main characters and how it grows, which it does well. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is an interesting show - you could call it ordinary, since it too is just about high school, but in reality it’s rather dark, and its characters are metaphors for the problems in Japanese society. K-ON! is alright too. It’s basically just another high school show, the exception being that they play music. Sometimes. Like I said, it’s alright, but it more or less just retreads old territory, so I wouldn’t really recommend it unless you really are into music or high school shows.

Not really high school but BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad is about a band trying to become famous. I’ve seen a couple episodes and think it’s good. If you watch it in Japanese it also has a lot of Engrish :3 .

See Lovely Complex. Best romantic comedy ever. I have no qualms about admitting that I like that show- it has fantastic writing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely waste the last of my Christmas break trying them. Watching Durarara!! on a friend’s suggestion (CLANNAD got very dull very fast). Not bad so far.

Edit: I’m loving His and Her Circumstances. Very sweet and enjoyable.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

His and Her Circumstances episode 26 relies heavily on a comic style where the conversations are written, but I can’t find a version where the written conversation is translated. Orpheon, do you have a version that you can link me that has the conversations in EP 26 translated?

Edit: I think I’ll just find the corresponding chapters of the manga and read that.

If you can get the mkv version from LIME, that one has everything translated.

Thanks, I got a hold of a Lime version, I liked the ending but I wish the series hadn’t of been cut short like just about every other good anime series in existence. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have to try some of your others too.

Sure, no problem. And yeah, it is kind of annoying that a lot of good series only get a 1-season run, but personally, I’d rather get 1 really good season of an anime than have it bloat into a filler-riffic cash cow franchise like some shows.

You know you could go on if you read the manga. The anime stops at volume 7 while the manga goes on for 21 volumes according to Wikipedia.

Edit: That’s actually the case for a lot of anime. Unless they’re a runaway success they’re typically cut short before going through the entirety of the manga, or even while the manga is still running.

Still lol at this title when i see it. Implying any anime is good.

Rally racing and F1 sucks.

Not really. Its a sport that requires skill and guts. Anime is something that neckbeards watch in dark, crying, wanking using the tears as lube.
