Gonarch's 'testicle' suggestion.

What’s with the testicle again?O_o

Balls. That and scaring teenagers because it was intended to be an M rated game from the get-go.

Plus the devs thought it was funny.

I’ve made a thread about this already, but it died =\

Haha, yeah man, thats what I was making fun of. Like Jiggleplant but with balls

Jiggleplant has balls.

What, you don’t like testicles?
Beautiful source-balls FTW.

what pussy is affraid of balls,if I may ask?

^ young boys actually or very prude girls…

Hell I’d be pretty horrified if a giant eyeless crab ran up to me and smacked me in the face with it’s nutsack.

I’d be afraid of the beast itself rather then the giant ball on his belly

I was pretty afraid of its enormous stabby claw-legs, to be honest. I thought it would stab me with those. Then it started jizzing at me and I was less afraid of it.

Surprisingly and thankfully, there’s no 34 with Gonarch. I checked.

Looks like scaring off kids with balls at an early age prevents these things from being made.

The point isn’t to scare teenage boys as such, it’s to disturb them.

no thirty four of what?

Rules of the Internet

I’m actually surprised, there was a 34 on the god damn resonance cascade, but something as obvious as a giant walking ballsack was overlooked.

Maybe I’m under the wrong impression, but from what I’ve gathered from Overwiki articles, the “homoerotic” art direction was just part of a discussion Newell and Birdwell had rather early in development and that it was thrown out with Mr. Friendly.
Birdwell’s brother gave him some concept art for Mr. Friendly and some other Geiger-esqe monsters, and Gabe took a shine to 'em.

Though thanks to you, I’ve just notice that the Alien Grunt’s left arm is a big penis, and I can’t unsee it.

Nonetheless if Valve seriously attempted to give the game an air of twisted homo-eroticism, I think they failed considering how many teenage boys play it, or the mods at least, really it’s only there if you look for it, and in my experience, subtlety doesn’t really unsettle teenage boys.

The Gonarch is described by Gabe as one of those “silly ideas” that came out when everyone was tired and sitting around, which I think provides further evidence that homo-eroticism wasn’t a focus far into development.

I took a shortcut through a class that was dissecting cats and my only thoughts going through the room were about food. Then again, 1 Guy 1 Screwdriver does manage to gross me out a little.

Look again at the topic that you’re posting in and you’ll see that you’re very wrong - people are creeped out by the Gonarch. Admittedly the Gonarch is the only remaining homo-erotic-esque element of HL that springs to mind, but the whole point wasn’t to scare their target audience senseless - it got under your guard in an unexpected way and was very tongue in cheek. That’s all it was. Considering how much debate this topic has produced, I’d say the Gonarch did its job. Something about it is undeniably horrible, like the first time you saw the poison headcrab.

Rule 35?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
