and what does that have to do with G-man?
If it were in true Blue shift style, it would be going towards everything. Very quickly.
And not to mention the more obvious note, they took you out of stasis in Episode 1 and held him hostage…
… It’s possible that he was the good guy but… if he was, Why did he know about all the Xen invasion that would happen if he gave the cristal to Eli and did not try to stop it? Why the vorts tried to stop him on ep1? Why does he have to be your boss or send you to death in hl1? Why the friendly fire does not allow me to kill him in hl2? And why he has breathing problems only in hl2?
I was responding towards Mr.Shadow of how he thought Gordon or Shepard was and I was saying they could be but Barney couldn’t.
gman is EXPERIMENTING on you, how you would react to an alien invasion, and be put into stasis…
maybe Gman just want to live like humans. i once had a guinea-pig in an aquarium, that i forgot about.
still as when snow falls, a year went by.
then i found him in my basement. i felt so guilty for the neglect that i decided to raise him as a human.
and he responded to it. he outgrew my wisdom, and it stung.
he works as a doctor now, albeit knee-short.
G-Man; saver of humens.
did your guinea pig have gills then?
Gspot-man; severer of hymens.
What if he is like the Ancients in Stargate, or like Q from Star Trek? Just a very powerful and very bored being who decided to screw with the first species he came across?
Maybe Valve haven’t thought of what he is yet and are scanning the internet for plausible, interesting reasons for Gmans actions.
best post in this thread;f
And whats with ppl trying to make gman good or evil, pretty sure he is a morally neutral being. Reminds me of dr manhatan from watchmens.
gman caused the resonance cascade … Need to say more?
What I think, right, is that it’s Gordan Freemanz, look has G-Mans, so obvious ;-0
I reckon there’s a good chance the whole of half-life is some simulation which got hijacked. The Gman is just your outside contact, man that would piss me off if that were the ending.
My theory is that he is testing humanity to destroy the Combine. His employers must be against them, so if they can’t do it themselves, why not hire some of the most adaptable, strong, heroic, and recognizble faces on Earth?
I think he is a neurtral to friendly character, that is from a planet that has been conquered. His “employers” are actually the “governement” of his planet. He may or may not be human, but if he isn’t, then he is disguised. I think he is human like, but his strange accent is because he doesn’t speak English, but a different language.
I think G-man was a brilliant kind of literary device to bring mystery and immersion to the experience of the story. Unforuntately what makes him such a great device is his mystery, and I don’t think any explanation of him can really be satisfying. If I were a writer for Valve, I’d figure out some way of bringing some sort of closure to the story but keeping G-man mostly unexplained.
He’s a good example of using an audiences’ imagination in the story’s favor. If you take away that factor, though, you’re not going to get as consistent a reaction.
It’s also important to reveal small things about him every once in a while though, otherwise the mystery pretty much stagnates.
Well mysteries are always nice…
And in my opinion I think Gman doesn’t really care about earth, I think he’s just using earth as a battleground to destroy the Combine by order of his superiors, a race batteling the Combine empire.
Very true, which is why I think I would leave him “mostly” unexplained. He definitely would have become old hat if nothing had been developed over the course of half-life 2 and its episodes.
