Get Black Mesa on Steam! We can do it!

I think it is very safe to say this about torrent method: It will certainly start slow at 10:47am Eastern next Friday… and then it will get faster and faster and faster and faster… I myself will be seeding all day on 2nd machine, while I play.

What you may not know, since you are new to torrents, is that you are already sharing, once you have anything downloaded (a block… shit is chunked up into blocks)… it automatically makes that data (blocks) available to others… everyone is grabbing (correct me if I’m wrong) diferent chunks from the master seed(s) while concurrently sharing and grabbing blocks from other users… and all machines are working together to make it download as fast as possible for everyone… this is my understanding of how this works… like torrent apps were explicitly written with this as the main objective… to be part of one big, fucking download machine.

And you are not going to understand what is going on under the hood until you click the PEERS tab (in Bittorrent for example) and see what is truly happening. You will see what percentage (of the one file we are all grabbing zip/rar/etc) each peer you are connected to has available… since there will be master seeds from the get-go (presumably), you will be connected to (hopefully) at least a couple that are going to read 100%… and many that are at 0% or 1% at the very start… then you are going to be witnessing everyones percentages start shooting upward faster as time goes on… and at critical mass, you should be downloading at around your max DL, provided everything goes well. If you have two machines, do your part. Once your BMS torrent DL is complete on PC-1, toss the fucker on a thumbdrive or DVD and take it to your gaming rig PC-2 and install… and keep the bastard seeding on PC-1 all day…

I’m hoping ALL team members and any close confidants of said team members will be prepared to seed come release.

The only problem with torrents is when there flooded with downloads without giving the initial seeds time to distribute.

After the first day torrent speeds should be pretty good.

My 4 MB/s downloads tend to disagree.

I’m fine with both Steam and torrent.
Btw, we are at 27% as of know, the 3rd place.

Were your 4MB/s downloads (actually) 4MB/s downloads, during Summer Sale (when some of us could not even login at times)? Were they disagreeing then?

And ODB, it does not count if VALVe is your next door neighbor or something… should that be the case…

I noticed that Steam shoved the Slender: Source game in my face when I pressed the next game in queue button…that may explain why it’s so successful. People just think ‘what the heck’ and vote for it as well (that is, if everyone gets S:S as next in queue lol).

BLACK MESA, THE GREENLIGHT MACHINE.

WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO. Doing nothing but climbing that chart!

If the game continually gets new upvotes at its current rate, it’ll hit 100% in just a few more days.

28% and still in 3rd, but coming mighty close to Project Zomboid. We’re the podracing Anakin Skywalker of Steam Greenlight!

…wait.

Are these new screenshots or were they already there?

They’ve been there since it was put in Greenlight

They weren’t released until the Greenlight page was put up I believe.

^All of them, except the Alien Grunt shot. That one’s been around for some time now.

Yeah, they are some pretty epic screenshots.

So wait. Are you saying the only way we’ll be able to DL Black Mesa at launch is torrent?

If so, that’s gotta be the biggest dick move in the history of dick moves.

Uh, no, no one said that. There will be normal download links too.

Almost at 30%

Learn how to torrent. People seem to be afraid of it though it’s dead simple.

Not that it will be. But if you complain about torrents without reason you’re just being lazy.

Granted the 100% votes amount to 100.000 votes.

We would have about 30.000 votes by now. At this time, we have 54.283 likes on the FB page and counting. So it seems not everybody got the news. Maybe we should bump the Wallpost on Facebook, so it get’s slammed on everybodys face on load up.

Having this much media coverage and the medias not yet having reported on the greenlight step, we should reach at least 100.000 voters in the next two days.

So get on FB, comment on the status post and write to your favorite online-Gaming Magazines. Greenlight application needs more attention.

EDIT: /\ This. That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Is it just me or this is starting to get really slow? I mean, if the ratings were still increasing at the same rate as in the first day, we’d probably be at almost 40% now…

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
