I’m going to quote Starship Troopers here for a moment to say
“I’m doing my Part”
I’ve advertised this mod on 3 of the other forums I use. hopefully this helps get the mod greenlit.
^ agreed.
Maybe torrents just seem to have got a bad name by association
I downloaded the CM11 mod through a torrent with a decent level of seeds and was getting around 600k/bits speed.
Having said that, I left it going while I slept.
I wish greenlight would highlight the top ranked games on its homepage, rather than an all inclusive or user determined queue. Anyone who logs into greenlight, especially new gamers with no real direction, should be presented with the most likely candidates for steam (i.e. the most popular/liked games), then users should peruse the rest of the entries.
At this point, all entries are clumped together from the start and gamer feedback is completely ignored until 100,000 votes is reached, then the game is suddenly highlighted. With so many entries, greenlight needs a little focusing to accomplish its true goal…getting the games people like on steam. Without pages like this:
https://www.shrewdlogarithm.com/greenlight.htm#
the best candidates are lost in the shuffle.
Maybe I am doing something wrong?
Games that are likely to make it onto steam should be able to make it on their own, greenlight is promoting the lesser known games so that they at least have a chance at getting some votes.
“Mr. Scott, I need more votes!”
“Captain, she can’t take much more but I will see what I can do!”
Gets drunk
“Shit…well it is up to the rest of humanity. We can’t count on the drunk Scot so we need all of you other weird people too! I don’t care what color, gender, or species you are! Votes = Power!”
If really getting this thing greenlit is a high priority, then it is time to change the homepage… the folks it was meant to induce pants-shitting for, has already happened.
Listen, some of you know that I am a designer/3D artist/programmer/etc… but I am a designer first. And I loved seeing the homepage (every last single pixel) Sunday morning… it was beautiful, glorious and well designed. It served its purpose, profoundly, for those first couple days, to those of us who would get it, and appreciate it.
But the true meaning of “THEY’RE WAITING FOR YOU GORDON…” and the countdown clock, is completely lost on anyone but us insiders… and expecting folks to go fishing through forums etc to find out what all the hubbub is about, is… well, perhaps a little too cocky (imho), if greenlighting is a top priority at this point.
If I were on the team, I would absolutely say: Let’s throw up a new page that is different enough from the old, still keep the countdown, but for the love of god, let’s get some real information up front, for those who have not been cool enough to follow this flippin’ thing for the last seven years…
This could be done in a way that still has a whiff of mystery, and pique people’s interest etc… but definitely says “we need your help” etc… once again, this is only if getting greenlit is of utter importance. Though, I would not be even the slightest bit surprised if I learned this whole GreenLight thing was a ploy (by VALVe) to get BMS on Steam, without looking like they are totally giving preferential treatment to BMS devs… the timing does certainly seem to be quite a coincidence…
Its pretty obvious what the countdown is for. If they’re still confused they’ll click on one of the link at the bottom of the page and easily find out.
The same way regulars here found out when they came to the site and seen it.
IMO, any entries that are getting high ranks and high numbers of votes deserve to be highlighted, end of story.
At the time of typing this, out of 732 games only 13 have cracked 10% and 5 of those have cracked 20%. These games deserve to be seen by everyone logging into greenlight. Dont forget, users can vote more than once and when the required number of votes are reached that candidate is no longer highlighted, making room for others in the spotlight.
Highlighting the top ranked entries only increases efficiency and saves time because gamers can vote for more then one candidate.
Trust me, this very thought kept me up at night (and I am the guy who made it). I’ve done noting but collect user day for the past few days and this was the biggest thing I’ve seen people express. It’s being worked on but there are other internal focuses that I must do. The final release however, resolves this issue. Hopefully soon I can push out another updated splash page.
thanks for that explanation man, really clarified things
If we really want this to take off, we need rock paper shotgun and kotaku and pc gamer to do stories on this and tell people to vote. Cmon people Go Go GO!
Why do you want to rush it so much? Black Mesa will get 100% in a week or two. Just be patient.
We’re @ 29% now the highest rated game is @ 31%, lets wait till were #1 on Greenlight.
Then the news sites can be like “Black Mesa soars to #1 game on Greenlight”.
That really makes for a headline, doesn’t it? Before release and all.
I have to admit it would be kind of nice to see BM actually reaching that magic mark of 100%.
Though given the info that can be read in the Greenlight FAQ concerning how many votes it actually needs to get a game on steam, this might not be necessary:
“So the specific number of votes doesn’t matter as much as relative interest in a game compared with other games in Steam Greenlight.”
“We are most interested in finding the games that people want, not requiring them to always hit a specific number of votes.”
If that is how they make their choice, a place for BM on Steam is already granted.
But just to make sure: Spread the word and make people vote. I guess nobodies grandparents mind suddenly having a steam account
Voted?
Been there, done that !
We are at 30% !!
The only problem with that is WHEN valve would make the revised determintion for where the line is. Meeting the current requirement would push valve to make a decision about the game now, rather than next month when they think greenlight’s had enough time to show what sort of volume is expected.
At any rate, while I’d like to think Black Mesa will hit it’s 100% target before release (it might not, but either way) i don’t believe that there’s a timeline specified for how long it takes for a game to get accepted once it hits that mark, and that itself could take a couple of weeks (or as little as a day or two)
Anyway, according to my little desktop widget, it’s hit 30%, is now officially in 2nd place over the whole of greenlight, and is just 2 points (assuming slender :s ource doesn’t get another point before then) away from being the most popular game on greenlight, all in just 48 hours.
Just hit 30%!
Aw wait, ninja’d before I even posted…
