i mean, reading that seemed to me, that somehow “good engineering” (and all the other great stuff from germany) is something that germans are being born with. like its an anthropological constant that germans are good engineers and whatnot.
not that i want to impute anything to y’all, but have you ever considered the possibility that in germany it always has been a political agenda to produce technological/scientific leadership? and that that was only ever possible, because germany had a) a leap in ressources, b) lacked in other concerns like colonialism and c) was self-centered with funny ideas like nationalism and thus focussed more on the above mentioned?

Well, it doesn’t matter why they’re good at engineering, does it? And I’m not German, I still think they’re awesome at it.

You’d also be that if you actually watched it. German Porn sucks hard balls. We do have some nice chicks doing the “acting”, but the plot usually sucks, the dialog is weird at best, the lighting is awful, the costumes are cheap, the music makes you vomit… and I could go on, but I think you get the gist of it.
American, Italian or French porn are far superior.

I will be honest, I do not know much about Germany prior to WWI. One can argue that their “quest for domination,” if you will, began around WWI and did not end until the reality and horror of Hitler was fully realized by the German people. Hitler did a hell of a job brainwashing and controlling (with fear) the impoverished Germans after WWI. Please note I am not making excuses for the behavior of Germany. Also note that Hitler’s primary goal was to improve Germany. Domination and holocausts were a means to an end, not the primary goal.
I believe that the military-industrial complex of Germany during the world wars certainly influenced their engineering capabilities and visions, but that was not an extremely long period of time and the Germans were making strides in engineering prior to WWI. Again, I do not know all of German history, perhaps they have always been a dominating and destructive force. However, there has to be a reason why their scientific minds were able to accomplish what they did. A country can’t just suddenly decide to change focus and become an engineering powerhouse if the inherent abilities and passion are not there, regardless of political agenda.
Germany’s engineering capabilities are a combination of inherent capabilities and environmental influences. I believe you are putting too much emphasis on the ~30 years of hostile, German aggressiveness. It did have some impact however.
Well they do say that most technological advances are made during wars - one side trying to out better the other.
But yep the germans are dam fine engineers… I’ve worked in many trades and german cars for one make other euro models look like they’re made with chewing gum and cigi papers!.. the german war machine was vastly superior to the alies … the tanks, V1 and V2 missiles - unfortunately the RAF held back Sir Frank Whittle so they beat the Brits to the jet engine to - but they got beaten by shear numbers in the end… the Americans and Russians were popping out tanks like there was no tomorrow… so even the superior Tigers were overwhelmed.
Today the US is probably the best at computing even thou the parts are assembled in Foxconn/Flextronics plants in China - the brains are Intel, M$, Apple and Cisco for example…
The Brits are great engineers to Concorde was mainly Brit and was the Harrier - we just tend to innovate it and give it away… the UK motorcycle industry was sold off and packed off to Japan to the likes of Honda…

As I mentioned earlier, I had family in London during the war. Aside from being the only civilians to be strafed by a Stuka (I’ve checked this, it strafed a street full of civilians for no good reason), my grandmother told me the scariest noise you could hear was the sound of a V1 engine cutting out in the middle of the night. While the engineering is sound, it can still be a little hard to appreciate them
But, then again, a German could say exactly the same thing about a Lancaster

What else should people from other countries be taught in school about Germany, if not the wars we waged against the rest of Europe? It’s not like there is any necessity for pupils and students to know anything else about us. It’s enough if they think of Hitler when someone says: “Germany”.
This way we can remain the political boogeyman for centuries to come, no matter what war crimes other nations might commit. They will always just say: “Well, at least we are not like Hitler Germany!” and get away with it. And our children’s children will still pay the debt for crimes they had no part in, committed in a time they have no connection to. Just because their ancestors made the most terrible mistake of following and believing - or at least succumbing to - a party lead by a mentally ill madman and his power greedy band of war criminals.
