German Engineering?

So yea, germans make nice stuff.

@Thread title: I don’t know what that means…

doesnt this thread belong in the ladies club?

Well … a lot of really good architects are from germany. Great Britain has many of them.

New tecnology in micro and nanotecnology is also really famous.

But most well known tec was diviced long time ago.

The radar was divised in Germany 1903 from Christian Hülsmeyer and was later finaly (1933 + ) used by Rudolph Kühnhold (Germany) and Robert Watson-Watt (Great Britain)

The contamination meter was made by Hans Geiger (Geigerzähler) in 1908.

We are also good in research like bacteriology.

Also 1997 the C-Leg protease was made. I saw a good PDF file with 50 Things from germany here: Top 50 (Its in german, but has some pictures too ^^)

Well i just dont know more ^^ sorry for my bad english. I hope you understand something

EDIT: Ah yes i forgot the MP3 Format was made by the Fraunhofer-Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen (IIS) from Germany. ^^

My mistake :stuck_out_tongue:

Getting back to the Fock-Wulfe, I believe it was greatly feared in WW2, until a german pilot kindly landed one at a RAF station by accident. He was captured and the plane analysed, and we found that it wasn’t as good as we’d thought. They did outclass us for a while, but as someone pointed out, the Spitfire went through so many iterations its kinda hard to be sure without much more study :stuck_out_tongue:

But, in keeping with the topic, the German aircraft were certainly fine pieces of engineering

(Side note on the Hurricane: It was cheaper to build and easier to maintain, but its higher kill count is attributed to the fact there were more of them, and they were mainly sent after the bombers while the Spitfires dealt with the fighter escorts. My family lived in London during the blitz, which gives me a very high opinion of the hurricane, even if I do prefer the Spit)

I hoped the smiley shows, that it wasn’t an all-serious post. Well, it is serious in that I really don’t like German beer much, but not serious, because anything with flavor is subject to personal preference (unlike engineering stuff, which should be the thread about).

Schneider-Weisse ist pretty tasty tough, I give you that. My favorite ones are Czech beers tough. German cars are still sweet.

Yes they were. Until WWII. They still make some good stuff, but now they’re no longer “the best in everything”, as Japan is now very good in electronics, the USA is good in research and development, while all production is displaced into China. So it’s no longer one country that makes cool stuff, but rather many countries all together.

Good, I couldn’t tell if you were serious or not lol. Any TRUE beer lover cannot consider german hefeweizens terrible, otherwise they are not true beer lovers IMO. Oh and lets not forget about the Reinheitsgebot. It takes a lot of skill to make just water, barley, and hops soooo tasty. Also, the worlds oldest brewery is Weihenstephaner, founded in 1040. They will be 1000 years old in 2040 :awesome: .

Now back to german tech. My father owns an '07 Audi A6 (4.0L V8 ) and an '08 Porsche 997 Turbo Cab. Both are heavy cars, but possess beautiful engines. Who else but the germans could perfect the illogical, rear-engine sports car. However, lets just say I predict the A6’s electrical system will start bugging out in about 5 years. Audi is known for electrical issues, but perhaps they have improved recently.

2 pages already, and yet nobody has mentioned Heckler & Koch, Mauser and Walther? Come on!

There’s also a lot of investment in renewable energy ressources. Wind- and water power are currently under refinement. Tidal power plants are being tested in the North Sea.

Alternative fuels are being researched.

My father has the Mauser K98k/M98, awesome rifle!

Well … germany isn’t the best and “made in germany” was a quality mark of the last decade. Thats because of the glabalization and the EU. Many new tecnologies are developed and constructed by many countries now. For example: The Eurocopterand Eurofighter. It’s tecnology from germany and other countries.

They now work together! Thats the same with many other products.

Long time ago you could say “made in XY” ist the best. Today, now in 2010 most countrys work together. It’s the best for the research

Edit: Also i guess, the main time for brand new and worldshaking tecnology is stuck. I mean, we now just dont see new tecnologies in our daily routines. But they are still there and present in every country.

:retard:

Actually during the battle of Britain the Me109 was the superior aircraft. The main reason for its failure was that it only had 15min of flying time over England, so it couldn’t do all that much to protect the bombers.

Of course later on Germany got to a point where other countries were overtaking their technology, and by then it was neccessary to just keep building planes rather than diverting everything to design new ones. Japan is a good example of this; despite making some excellent fighters by 1944 the sheer number of losses experienced meant that the A6M Zero remained the frontline plane even though it was ridiculously outdated.

Nice, I love the commercials with Peter Stormare:

BTW I want an mp5k:

Spitfire’s had a much smaller turning circle which made them very good aircraft. Though I am quite, quite drunk.

Hurricanes had a smaller one.

That’s because we’re talking German engineering here. Not Godly engineering

I know that after the war was over the US, as well as other countries, took a bunch of the Me 262 back home to reverse engineer them.

We also had some German help building the atomic bomb and with their help we beat Germany and Japan to it.

Yes they do make some good cars, but some of the things are ass-backwards. Like putting the thermostat on the bottom of the engine, stupid. None the less, their cars and engines are well made.

The diesel engine, jet engine, pulse jet engine, and internal combustion engine were all greatly optimized and built better.

Take the pulse jet for instance. The French invented it and didn’t know what to do with it. Germans find out and strap it to a bomb.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
