Gaming Sexism

I might be a bit late with this, but it seems that many have caught up with the fact that females are harassed in gaming because they are females.

Luke Crane asked why there are so few lady game creators. The Twitter Hashtag #1reasonwhy was created and is gathering a lot of attention now.

So ehmm, discuss?

What a coincidence, just saw a hilarious video about sexism in games.

Its true that these “females” also play computer games, but the real question is:

that actually did make me laugh

I think to start a sexism debate at computer games is just a waste of time. An industry aimed predominantly at males that unfortunately attracts many juvenile losers. It’d be like trying to cut racism out of football. You simply won’t be able to get logic, or empathy out of these people.

Perhaps starting at the workplace, predominantly at pay equality, would be a better, less wasteful use of these peoples time.

I wasn’t aware that football was racist.

‘futbol’ football crowds are pretty fucking racist.

so i guess you’re talking american football?

No.

dont see the connection at all then

hooliganism yes, but racism? not in belgium anyway, far as i can tell

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_association_football

there’s even a section for belgium

[COLOR=‘Red’]Okay, folks, let’s try to stay on topic if we can.

Really? Do you follow much football?

Racism is probably the most talked about part of the game outside the endless ‘tactical’ BS.

Regardless, football draws racists, just like gaming draws juvenile losers who simply don’t know how to talk to women, enhanced by the added mask of internet anonymity.

I used to play with a lass from California on L4D, the complete cockless cretins on there and the unbelievably retarded shit they said to her forever destroyed my faith in the VAST majority of the gaming community.

Thus, with said internet anonymity and the group mentality said losers share any campaign of ‘sexism out of video games’ would be a fruitless waste of time, better spent on sexism issues that actually matter, against males who might actually listen and thus are actually ‘worth the time’ so to speak.

Sexism in gaming is a hot issue right now. The thread is really about that and not racism in football. So, let’s not continue with the racism in football topic in this thread.

Also, for the sexists: don’t take this opportunity to express sexism. That’s a bad idea.

I get sort of annoyed by it, particularly “girls can’t play games” (though “GAMUR GURL 4 LIEF” gets to me more) but any gender-related thing can be ridiculously overdone. In actual games, I get annoyed by characters like Lara Croft because she’s an annoying bitch who doesn’t seem to know what a tomb is anymore, that and they’ve tried to make her ridiculously physically oversexualised yet mentally reasonable and in this case it just doesn’t work. That said, I don’t mind Juliet (Lollipop Chainsaw) because despite being ridiculous in every way, it’s generally a parody of the similar “offenses”. Valve especially know what they’re doing with this kind of thing, they successfully try to make both character genders equal, i.e. Alyx and Chell.
tl;dr, I don’t like it but it hardly makes me rage.

That video was funny though.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
