I’m not saying the weapons and enemies were perfect in every way. I’m just saying they couldn’t have been done any better. :retard:
But that’s just my opinion, really.
And how could they not have been done better, especially unless they were perfect? And I can certainly think of ways they could be better.
For one, they could ALL stand to hold more ammo, a lot of them several times more, or at the very least scaled ammo capacity for difficulty settings. One of the worst was the shotgun, where in HL2 you couldn’t even carry a fifth the ammo you could in HL1.
The shotgun ended up being just about the damn best weapon in the entire game, since it was decently powerful, spread and aim wasn’t too bad, and just felt great to use, but a pump-action shotgun shouldn’t be the best weapon in a game about dimension-traveling aliens, especially when its predecessor had more.
Did you really ever pick up something like the gluon gun, or find the hornet gun, and think “gosh! This weapon is just too different! I wish they had put in another assault rifle/pistol instead!”? I doubt you have.
Bigger ammo capacity would only make the game easier and let you use 1 or 2 weapons all the time. It would get more repetetive. And I never even came close to running out of ammo save for one time I got lost in Ravenholm on my first playthrough.
You couldn’t kill shit with it over distance. The crossbow was way more effective not to mention the gravity gun + phys props.
The same aplies to the gravity gun. And don’t forget it is incredibly difficult to create a weapon that is awesome, original, good in gameplay, powerful but not overpowerful, fits in the game and does not get repetitive.
Far Cry 2 was pretty damn terrible
You’d think so but you’d be wrong, if you take time to experiment with different approaches to missions it can be very fun.
I can see where it would be boring if you’re the “GOTTA FINISH FAST” type of person, but if you mix things up a bit and take your time it’s a really good game.
Also, with the whole weapons debate, 357 magnum > all.
Too bad there’s almost no ammo for it in the game, and you carry only 12 rounds. It’s shit like that.
There should be a couple guns you use all the time, those are called “bread and butter guns”. Classic FPS’s all had one or two, and you just got comfortable with them, since they’d almost always be there when you need them. And why does Half-Life 2 get away with having practically half the arsenal of its predecessor? Why is “making weapons is HARD!” a valid excuse when the company has become significantly larger, but not back when they were making their first game ever?
If you could carry 20 guns it’d just be stupid. They had originally planned a weapons system similar to Crysis, back when they had extra guns and things like the combine sniper, flare gun, ice pick, OCIW, etc…, (In the sense you had like 3-4 guns that you could drop and switch out,) but was left out because (IIRC,) they felt it limited the player too much.
Truth is, they were going to have more guns, but they scrapped most of them.
Its 12 vs 14 weapons, 13 including the super gravity gun, and 14 including the tau cannon, and 15 including movable turrets, so yeah, thats definitely half of 14. And none of those are worthless, unlike tripmines, and the Gauss cannon and Glau gun are redundant.
Its 12 vs 30 or so, really.
EDIT: Many more than that. Weapons they had but did not include:
* AK-47
* Black Hole Gun
* Brickbat
* Combine Guard Gun
* Combine Launcher
* Desert Launcher
* Energy Grenade
* FIM-92 Stinger
* Fire Extinguisher
* Flare Gun
* Flash Grenade
* GR9
* HK-707
* Harpoon
* Hopwire Grenade
* Ice Axe
* Immolator
* Incendiary Rifle
* MP5K
* MP7
* Minigun
* Molotov Cocktail
* Physgun
* Pulse Shield
* Restrictor
* Roller Wand
* S.L.A.M
* Sniper Rifle
* Socket Wrench
* Sticky Launcher
* Stun Baton
* Tau Cannon
* Vortex Hopwire
* XM29 OICW
I hardly ever used the gauss, tau, or hive hand in Half Life. I only used them when wasting ammo for other weapons. I didn’t mind that they were gone.
Never used the tripmines either, come to think of it.
I did miss snarks though…
Where are the other 16? Beta weapons don’t count, because they were probably removed for a reason. Lets keep thing semi-logical here.
I would have loved if they kept all those weapons in. Also, I’m pretty sure they only planned to USE the 3-weapon system since every other game was starting to use it, as well. And carrying around tons of weapons isn’t dumb, since just about every single game before Halo did that, and I don’t really think anybody ever thought “I’m just carrying too many weapons! I hate having this much variety!”
It’s more REALISTIC to carry only a few weapons, but then again, Gordon STILL carries way more weapons than he should be able to realistically, so you might as well go the whole nine yards.
Also, why is it that the super-advanced dimension-shifting aliens that came and took over our world and enslaved us all yet the only weapon of theirs we get to use seems to be inferior to our SMGs? They really seem to have pitiful weaponry for a race that took down the entire planet’s combined military.
And about snarks, I think actually the antlions are kinda like Snarks 2.0, and won’t even turn on you like snarks did 80% of the time! TOO BAD YOU ONLY GET TO ENJOY THEM FOR HALF OF A CHAPTER.
Remember the first trailers? I honestly believed that they actually made a step forward… assholes
Same goes with Crysis. It’s a really good game, until you enter the spaceship. From that point, the game is al: Look what the engine can do!
Anyways, I’m disapointed with New Super Mario Bros DS.
=(
It was a little to easy. It also lacks any form of Yoshi and is kinda boring. It’s a decent game, but lacks in a few aspects.
I thought it was excellent, but of course, people have different tastes in games.
It’s sequel (well, I think it is), New Super Mario Bros. Wii however is excellent. But still, only 10 levels with Yoshi. I understand the fact they took away the ability to take him to other levels but still, 10 levels.
My biggest disappointment had to be Luigi’s Mansion for the gamecube… The gameplay is basically “You’re Mario’s brother/sidekick and you have a mansion . What you have to do is pick of a vacuum and start sucking some ghosts”… FIRST OF ALL Why the hell would Luigi get a mansion? He’s the most undeserving character in the Mario series (for the exception of Toad.) And when you think you’ve heard it all, one of those mushroom headed creatures gives you a vacuum, and tells you to vacuum all of the ghost’s in the mansion. Other than all of that, the inability to change camera angles, the half-assed story and intolerable controls, it was a standard Mario platformer (without being able to jump that is)
